Description
The Mental Health Counsellor provides individual and/or group counselling to individuals referred to CCHC's mental health counselling services.

Primary responsibilities include assessment, treatment planning, individual and/or group counselling, and information and referral when needed to allied health services.

The Mental Health Counsellors provide short term (up to 8 sessions) and single session/brief narrative focused therapy for adults age 18+.

CCHC Mental Health Counsellors work with diverse populations (newcomers, seniors, 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and adults) and are adept at providing service from an anti-racist and trauma informed lens.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Mental Health Counsellor supports clients to acquire new knowledge, develop new skills, and find resilience and hope.


As an employee of the Centretown Community Health Centre, the incumbent reports to the Manager of the Mental Health and Addictions Team and through him/her/they to the Director of the MHA Team and the Executive Director.

Requirements:


Essential

  • Masters of Social Work, or Masters of Education (Counselling) or equivalent degree.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with CCAP or OASW/OCSWSSW/ or the College of Psychotherapy.
  • Minimum of two (2) years counselling experience.
  • Training and proficiency in counselling approaches (CBT; Narrative Therapy; Emotional Focused Therapy; MI)
  • Experience in shortterm, single session, strengthbased, narrative counselling approaches.
  • Solid knowledge of mental health and social services field, including addictions.
  • High sensitivity to psychosocial, social, mental health and health needs of our diverse 2SLGBT2QIA+ clients; e.g. older adults, people living on low income, people from diverse cultural groups, MSM, queer and trans people of colour
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and system/resources.
  • Crisis intervention skills.
  • Excellent Facilitation Skills and Experience developing and facilitating groups
  • Knowledge of antioppressive framework
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible schedule, Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Is part of the 2SLGBT2SQIA+ community and comfortable in working within a "by the community for the community" framework
  • Working with diversity within the 2SLGBT2QIA+
  • Experience and skill in supervising student placements

Language designation
English - written and spoken

French - spoken

Ability to communicate in other languages is an asset.

Les conseillers en santé mentale du CSCC travaillent avec diverse populations (nouveaux arrivants, personnes âgées, jeunes et adultes 2LGBTQIA+) et sont aptes à fournir des services dans une optique antiraciste te tenant compte des traumatismes.

Travaillant au sein d'une équipe multidisciplinaire le conseiller en santé mentale aide les clients à acquérir de nouvelles connaissance, développée de nouvelles compétences et à trouver la résilience et l'espoir.


Comme un employé du centre de santé communautaire du centre-ville le titulaire releve du gestionnaire de l'équipe de santé mentale et dépendances et par lui au Directeur de l'équipe de santé mentale et dépendances et au Directeur général.
