University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Medical Device Reprocessor in our Medical Device Reprocessing Department.

The
MEDICAL DEVICE REPROCESSOR performs assigned duties in accordance with Medical Device Reprocessing Department standards of practice, policies and procedures.
The principal responsibilities include; performing procedures at multiple stations that are apart of the equipment re-use decontamination process, requiring care and considerable attention to detail; checking and preparing supplies and inventory following special procedure, exerting extra care to handle extremely delicate and expensive equipment/instruments received from multiple locations; performing high temperature steam, low temperature ethylene oxide and other forms of sterilization; performing other related set up, cleaning and sterilization activities; entering and updating records, in a timely manner; utilizing knowledge of over 1000 instruments to effectively identify/differentiate between instruments in order to efficiently and correctly select, label, sort and inventory instruments at appropriate tables; performing picking and issuing responsibilities; maintaining the mobile Respiratory Therapy crash cart that containing the necessary supplies to retrieve victims of cardiac and respiratory arrest; performing inventory control responsibilities to ensure receiving departments can function at optimum levels; performing cross-functional and other duties as assigned and/or required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At minimum, completion of a post secondary certificate up to one year in Sterile Supplies Processing Techniques which includes a four week practicum OR completion of the Central Services Association of Ontario (CSAO) course, plus one year full time equivalent CPD experience OR successful completion of the in house CPD course, including one year CPD experience or recognized equivalent
- Membership with the Central Service Association of Ontario (CSAO) an asset
- Proficient in the correct operation of all processing equipment
- Knowledge of instrument technology
- Knowledge of case cart picking procedure
- Knowledge of sterilization/decontamination procedures/methods
- Knowledge of microbiology principles
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (W.H.M.I.S.)
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other relevant legislation
- Maintains knowledge of over 1000 different surgical instruments
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently to understand verbal work orders and/or instructions
- Ability to understand material such as detailed forms, standard memos and/or letters
- Ability to understand materials such as detailed operating and procedures manuals, specialized and technical manuals
- Ability to add, subtract and/or divide and calculate percentages
- Compliance with Body Substance Precautions provisions.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: able to lift 6 kg to 10 kg.
- Compliance with sanitary, sterilization and infection control requirements
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
- Exercise initiative and good judgement with ability to multitask
- Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
