The Municipality's climate strategy (HalifACT), incorporates climate mitigation and adaptation targets and actions by our organization, stakeholders and the wider community.

We are at a critical junction in climate change action, and are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable and experienced individual to join our team.

Mobilizing and supporting action by all stakeholders is critical for achieving our climate goals. The Climate Engagement Specialist is a senior professional specialized in engagement, collaboration, facilitation, capacity building and collective impact.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages, supports, grows and enables the HalifACT stakeholder network and other key partners in climate action by:
  • Supporting the planning and facilitation of ongoing stakeholder engagement meetings
  • Using dynamic and creative approaches to build momentum to achieve tangible climate outcomes
  • Developing and implementing strategies to reach, inform and mobilize stakeholders
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships and partnerships with the public, community and private sector by:
  • Convening, facilitating and participating in various meetings and events.
  • Working to progress the climate agenda using custombuilt facilitation approaches that meet the needs of the participants.
  • Using effective and novel engagement approaches appropriate for diverse audiences.
  • Represents the division in various public forums.
  • Facilitates public, stakeholder and Council support for municipal initiatives.
  • Liaises and communicates with environmentrelated stakeholders and groups, HRM Boards, Committees, Community Councils and Regional Council.
  • Writing clear and compelling invitations and reports for internal decision makers, stakeholders and the public.
  • Works with communities to advance climate goals and build resilience and community capacity.
  • Works to engage and support residents in traditionally marginalized and underserved communities and with climatevulnerable communities.
  • Builds capacity for collaboration and innovation within teams and stakeholders.
  • Provides tangible tools and methods for collective impact to work across silos and move beyond linear and businessasusual planning approaches into ways of working that appropriately address complex issues.
  • Cultivates an innovation ecosystem that supports team prototypes and projects using a collective impact approach to addressing climate change.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:


  • University Degree in arts or science, commerce, or a related field.
  • An applied science or arts degree may also be considered.
  • A minimum of four (4) years' experience in stakeholder engagement related to environment and/or climate change, in engaging diverse communities and stakeholders, and in building partnerships to address complex issues.
  • Specific experience and/or expertise in working with government, the private sector, nonprofits, academics, the Mi'kmaq, and African Nova Scotian communities.
  • Experience working on climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:


  • Experience organizing and facilitating strategic discussions, events and workshops across sectors, cultures, disciplines, and belief systems.
  • Knowledge of effective and novel engagement approaches appropriate for diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge and experience in virtual engagement.
  • Familiarity with climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Familiarity with climate action in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
  • Familiarity with stakeholders' roles and responsibilities related to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on complex issues in a team environment.
  • Trained and experienced with collective impact approaches to addressing climate change.

Security Clearance Requirements:

WORK STATUS:
Permanent, full time


HOURS OF WORK:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 35 hours per week.


SALARY:
Level 9, NSUPE $37.76/hr


WORK LOCATION: 88 Alderney Drive, 3rd floor Dartmouth Ferry Terminal
