Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services.

ROLE OVERVIEW


Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice, the Professional Practice Leader is responsible to support standards of practice, promote best practice implementation, and ensure safety and quality in the overall practice environment in keeping with Northumberland Hills Hospital's mission, vision, values, and strategic direction.

The PPL works collaboratively with clinical service leadership and members of the Interprofessional care team and all Patient Care Units, departments, and services.

The Professional Practice Leader will also fulfill the role of NHH's Clinical Extern Mentor Coordinator (EMC).

This will support Clinical Externs' practice and integration into the clinical area in accordance with organizational and professional standards, and in collaboration with clinical teams.

They will create, adapt, and deliver orientation and learning resources, support Extern onboarding, scheduling, and integration into clinical teams.

The EMC will maintain regular unit presence to support ongoing education needs and provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the Clinical Extern role.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Registered Nurse with a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
  • Masters of Nursing or related field required
  • CNA Certification in relevant specialty (Medical Surgical, Gerontology, Rehabilitation) an asset
  • Membership in related professional interest group or association preferred
  • Successful completion of a nursing education course preferred
  • Evidence of continuing education on an annual basis
  • Current B.C.L.S. certification required
  • Demonstrates a professional and respectful attitude to patients, public, volunteers and colleagues; fosters good public relations and effective working relationships.
  • Proven good attendance record with capabilities of maintaining this same standard.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Excellent clinical skills and competencies,
  • Outstanding communication skills,
  • Previous experience teaching, working with adult learners and/or precepting,
  • Previous experience as Clinical Instructor or placement supervisor an asset, and
  • Demonstrated leadership, change management, and problemsolving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be selfmotivated
  • Strong orientation to staff development and staff empowerment.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS


Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire.

This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.


Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
