Position Summary


Centennial College is looking for a flexible Library Technician to provide quality service to diverse patrons at one or more of Centennial's 5 college campus locations.

Reporting to the Manager, Library Services, you will conduct various duties related to library technical services and operations and provide Library and Learning Centre services in-person, by phone and online.


Responsibilities

  • Provide circulation and borrower services: checkin, checkout, holds, renewals, fines, library accounts, etc.
  • Provide effective reference services: inperson, telephone and online via askON, catalogue and electronic database searches, locating items on the shelves
  • Troubleshoot technical and access problems including printers, photocopiers, college system access and making appropriate referrals to IT support
  • Process payments using debit, credit, cash and Centennial MyCards, keeping accurate transaction records
  • Recording statistics
  • Assist with student orientation and library promotional activities
  • Assist students to book tutoring appointments and answer basic Learning Centre questions
  • Additional duties as required

Qualifications/Experience

  • 2year CAAT Library and Information Technician diploma required
  • 2year diploma or equivalent education and work experience; 4year undergraduate degree an asset
  • Experience in circulation, preferably using the ILS system, Alma
  • Experience searching research databases and providing reference service
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with supporting a diverse student community
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to trouble shoot issues and take appropriate action to resolve them
  • Demonstrates selfmotivation and initiative
  • Ability to manage time and stay organized
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team or independently


Proof of credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post secondary institutions and/or their foreign equivalents will be required at the time of job offer.
