Duties:


In this position, you will work on a range of forest fire related topics, including research and development, operational support, and knowledge exchange activities.

During the Canadian wildland fire season, you will be responsible for situational awareness at the national scope, as well as occasional work to support Canadian wildland fire managers through projections, analytics, etc.

Travel will be required to attend conferences, workshops, and key stakeholder engagement on various wildland fire topics, including research, behaviour, fuels, risk, and predictive services.

Further, development and delivery of training courses on the above topics will be a key component of your work

EDUCATION
ED1.

Graduation with a degree in forestry or wood science from a recognized post-secondary institution, or graduation with a degree in a related science from a recognized post-secondary institution combined with acceptable forestry experience.

Degree equivalency


EXPERIENCE
EX1. Experience working on natural resource management projects involving multiple jurisdictions
EX2. Experience in operational wildland fire management
EX3. Experience managing a high workload and setting priorities


EDUCATION
AE1. A Master's degree in natural sciences or forestry
AE2. Specialized wildfire course completion(s), e.g. S-490, S-590, etc.

Degree equivalency


EXPERIENCE
AEX1. Experience in Incident Command Systems (ICS) functions at the Unit Leader or higher level
AEX2. Experience in interagency wildfire response


KNOWLEDGE
AK1. Knowledge of principles of Knowledge Exchange (KE)
AK2. Knowledge of wildland fire research
AK3.

Knowledge of the regulatory framework for wildland fire in Canada and the systems of wildland fire mutual aid and resource exchange.


OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willing and able to work overtime on evenings or weekends as required;
  • Willing and able to travel occasionally in Canada.
