Job Description:


The Manager Clinical nutrition and PPL for Dietitian is responsible for supervising the work of the dietitians within the inpatient and outpatient hospital services and home and community care.

The manager is also responsible in the coordination of coverage for the weekend services, vacation and any other types of leaves.

The manager is responsible for the dietetic internship program with affiliated institutions.

The manager is also responsible for communication with food services in regards to diet information, menu planning and diet changes.

The manager is also responsible for the inventory list of infant formula and enteral products involving close work and monitoring of supplies with procurement.

The manager is responsible for patient safety in relation to any incidents reports involving nutrition for the hospital.

The incumbent is responsible for representing the professional group at CHEO.

The primary responsibility of the PPL is to advance patient care through the provision of leadership to the profession so that the standards of practice are enhanced and excellence in clinical, research and education is fostered.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Manage the work activities of the Dietitians within the the inpatient and outpatient hospital services and home and community care, including coverage for vacation, weekend and other types of leaves.
  • Collaborate with Operations Directors with regards to staffing levels, recruitment and selection, credentialing, retention, discipline and termination for clinical, research and educational roles.
  • Provide leadership in the discipline within CHEO and externally and promote a positive and professional environment.
  • Provide orientation and training for new staff
  • Prepare Performance Appraisal and ensure monitoring of issues identified through the performance review process.
  • Coach and Mentor staff in professional practice and ensure staffs are actively involved in continuing education.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing for Medbuy contract, and the different nutritional product companies.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify and address quality management issues related to professional practice.
  • Collaborate with Food Services in regards to communication for diet information, changes and menu planning.
  • Participate in PSUs and hospital initiatives that impact resource allocation
  • Review and make recommendations regarding hospital policies & procedures and medical directives, on behalf of the profession
  • Promote the development and integration of evidencebased standards and practice guidelines.
  • Ensure staff are actively involved in continuing education so that professional practice keeps pace with current standards and practice guidelines.
  • Develop and use tools/processes to evaluate quality of practice from the patient and family perspective
  • Attend monthly Professional Advisory Council meetings and perform activities as outlined in the PAC Terms of Reference, communicate regularly with staff and Operations Directors on issues raised at council.
  • Identify PSU and/or hospitalwide trends that affect patient and staff needs
  • Collaborate in the planning, coordination and organization of PSUs and hospital
- wide projects and programs

  • Monitor clinical, operational and fiscal indicators.
  • Work in collaboration with staff and physicians in other Programs/Departments to ensure effective delivery of patient care/services.
  • Follow up on Incident reports generated through the Safety Reporting System.
  • Manage within assigned budgets; monitor expenses; process payments.
  • Ensure the development and ongoing updating of the program manuals/procedures/policies. Ensure that all revisions and additions are communicated to relevant parties.
  • Work collaboratively to resolve any patient experience concerns brought forward by patients and/or families.
  • Respond to environmental issues to provide for a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities.
  • Provide profession specific endorsement for research ethics submissions and medical directives prior to review by appropriate approval committees
  • Collaborate with other PPL's, health care providers, educators and researchers to develop and implement joint clinical, research and teaching initiatives
  • Represent the Professional Advisory Council on CHEO committees
  • Collaborate with community partners to identify and respond to consumer needs and concerns related to the provision of health care services
  • Participate in educational opportunities that support & advance professional practice
  • Collaborate with university/college professional programs with regard to academic curriculum, accreditation, changes in clinical practice/community needs sit on Advisory or Faculty Liaison Committees as appropriate
  • Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO cor
