You will be leading a team, or multiple teams, and working closely with the customer and other Serco engineering teams to deliver quality system designs and 3D Product Models including shipyard manufacturing information.


In this role, you will:


  • Be responsible for leading a team in the creation or revisions of 3D Product Models or 2D functional or detail/production drawings for ship, vessel and boat design/fabrication in the following disciplines:
  • Hull and primary structural detail design and/or secondary structural steel outfitting detail design. (hot work)
  • Mechanical equipment and distributed systems outfit (pipe, and/or HVAC and/or electrical/cable) detail design. (cold work)
  • Joiner outfitting, general equipment, and interior space arrangements detail design.
  • In this role it is expected that the Detail Design Manager will develop positive working relationships with all team members and all stakeholders and will facilitate clear and timely communication and exchange of information.
  • The Detail Design Manager will be responsible for ensuring that drawings and manufacturing information are generated in accordance with Serco and client standards, quality and engineering processes, including those for which the Senior Design is responsible.
  • The Detail Design Manager will be responsible for setting budgets and schedules, and for managing the development of 3D Product models or 2D drawings and manufacturing information to those budgets and schedules.

Qualifications:

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • High School Diploma and a minimum of 15 years drafting/design experience in one or a combination of the three disciplines outlined in the position description. (A College Degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering or similar technical field is HIGHLY DESIRED)
  • 3D modeling design or 2D drafting experience in marine environments.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Canadian Security Clearance postemployment.
  • Experience with commercial vessel or Coast Guard or Naval type vessels (expertise with functional design transitioning to production design and/or experience with unit/block build strategy production design is an asset).
  • Knowledge and experience with ship design 3D Product Modeling tools such as ShipConstructor, AVEVA Marine/Tribon/PDMS, NAPA, Foran, Cadmatic, Catia and Smart3D is required.
  • Experience developing budgets and schedules for 3D Product Modelling work.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:_
  • Have the ability to turn engineering specifications and classification society requirements, sketches, yard fabrication standards etc., into end state functional and detail 3D models and 2D drawings without supervision
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the use of AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and Navisworks. Expertise with 3D software such as Rhino, Solidworks or Inventor may be considered an asset.
  • Have the skills to review, self check and check others work to comply with such requirements
  • Have competence in the use of MS Outlook, Word and Excel and familiarity working in a networked PC environment
  • Be able to work independently and in collaboration with others as and when needed while following standardized procedures and work instructions
  • Be required to teach or coach more junior designers
  • Be required to assist more senior designers with overseeing the work of others, managing deliverables and process improvement initiatives will be considered and asset.
  • A demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage teams.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Possessing or the ability to obtain Canadian Security Clearances (Reliability/Controlled Good or higher) maybe considered an asset or maybe required for the role.
