Clinical Informatics Specialist - Toronto, Canada - St. Michael's Hospital
Description
The Clinical Informatics Specialist- RISPACS role functions within the Medical Imaging department.
Responsibilities:
- Liaison between the clinicians/leaders, information services professionals and relevant project team members/leaders; foster collaboration and shared direction among diverse clinical and nonclinical groups
- Facilitate the documentation of workflows both current and future to help reengineer business processes to enhance patient care
- Application of technology to support, streamline, improve workflow, and increase patient safety to support evidence based best practices
- Engagement and managing of the planning, development, implementation, maintenance, evaluation and support of patient care technologies
- Support the adoption and standardization of clinical systems through education and training, workflow/process analysis, quality outcomes, and providing support in accordance with organizational strategic goals
- Utilizes innovation in and maintains responsibility for all IT programming for the clinical system to facilitate optimal workflow activities
- Provides expertise for the installation, tuning, upgrading and maintenance of the system including unique specialized software and hardware (Siemens Syngo RIS, Carestream PACS, Voice Recognition, Powerscribe, Critical results management, Terarecon, )
- Analyzes and summarizes data/trends and prepares quality management reports
- Validates data pulled from relevant systems
Qualifications:
- Completion of a degree in Medical Imaging Specialty, Health Administration, Informatics or equivalent required.
- Experience and/or Postgraduate education in Imaging Informatics preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of previous hospital experience in direct patient care in a team environment required
- Advance knowledge of the core components of the RISPACS system required
- Excellent knowledge of integration/communication between core systems and the Medical Imaging RISPACS
- Experience working on clinical system implementation or health transformation projects
- Experience in project management and people change management principles and methodologies in a clinical setting
- Advanced computer skills required, strong organizational and timemanagement skills.
- Strong HL7 interphases and system integration skills
- Experience with Windows Active Directory
- Experience working in cross platforms (Windows and Novell)
- Knowledge of IT security best practices
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft technologies including Windows Server, IIS, SQL Server, etc.,
- LINUX experience an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in redesigning clinical processes to improve clinical practice, efficiency and patient care, preferably in conjunction with the implementation of a health information system
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in developing, implementing and revising policies, analyzing workflows and making departmental or system wide improvements in practice (using LEAN principles)
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving analytical skills, attention to detail, and an ability to manage competing demands in a fast paced, multidisciplinary health care environment
- Client service orientated with the ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication and consultation skills; Selfmotivated team player, reliable and cooperative
- Effective data analysis skills required
- Works collaboratively with other members of the team, as required to facilitate the development, coordination and implementation of appropriate systems that are in alignment with best practices, and departmental goals;
- Ability to meet deadlines and achieve deliverables required
- Ability to work well individually and in a team environment required
- Ability to perform responsibilities in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines, in accordance with SMH standards
- Ability to work in compliance with SMH confidentiality policy
- Ability to exercise good judgement in the performance of work activities
- Commitment to continuous professional learning to keep up to date with technological advancement
- Must be flexible, punctual and have an excellent attendance record.
HOURS:
Monday to Friday and on-call on a rotational basis.
