Facility Maintenance/Handyman

About the Role:
As our Maintenance/Handyman, you are responsible for contributing to the operational performance by maintaining and improving the commercial/residential properties located in Etobicoke and Vaughan.
The Maintenance position will be a part of a team that performs a variety task to maintain building systems, equipment, and all physical aspects of the facility.
Responsibilities
- Diligently replying to work orders, work assignments and other work requests in a timely manner.
- Working together with other maintenance staff, management, and contractors as and when required; in a cooperative, efficient, and respectful manner to complete assigned work.
- Performing all duties in a safe, diligent, and careful manner; operating with strict compliance with relevant Occupational Health and Safety policies, rules, and requirements for all work performed.
- Ensuring that all work areas are always kept clean and tidy in a manner consistent with good housekeeping practices.
- Performing general maintenance, inspection, and repair work on all aspects of the facilities and systems within the scope of work.
- Performs regular facility equipment and systems monitoring and inspection, preventative, and corrective maintenance to ensure facility operation and integrity are maintained.
- Communicates and records observations about facility equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies and provides suggestions for enhancement and repair.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment and building systems.
- Responds promptly and courteously to routine and ondemand service requests and performs preventative and corrective maintenance in a timely manner on facility equipment and systems.
- Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements.
- Receives, tracks, monitors, and reports status of maintenance and repair work within service maintenance management database.
- Accurately maintains/completes all equipment logbooks and maintenance records as required.
- Repair structures, build and/or install partitions, blackboards, install pictures, and office furniture.
- Perform minor plumbing repairs such as faucet replacement, urinal and toilet repairs, pipe and drain repairs and troubleshooting malfunctioning plumbing equipment.
- Snow removal such as cleaning and salting of walkways, pathways, and parking lot.
- Minor landscaping and maintenance of the commercial and residential properties.
- General garbage removals at 2 of our head office locations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification
- Minimum of 2 years experience in commercial/residential facility operations, maintenance, and repair.
- Understanding of general maintenance procedures and techniques
- Must be able and willing to work flexible shifts, be available for oncall/standby and emergency callouts when snowplowing and salting is required in the winter months.
- Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must have the ability to use hand tools, lift up to 50 lbs., and work on ladders
- Excellent communication skills (verbally, written); must be able speak and write fluently in English.
- Effective communication and critical thinking skills.
- Must be wellorganized and able to prioritize tasks.
- Working at Heights and WHIMIS training.
- Valid Ontario G Driver's License and vehicle is required.
Success in the Role:
- Ability to perform Reactive and Preventative Maintenance work and proper documentation.
- Proven desire to learn, take initiative, and a passion for technical fields.
- Positive, professional disposition towards work and willingness to cooperate. with coworkers and supervisors and to contribute to a project team.
- Strong clientservice orientation along with a high sense of urgency
- Ability to succeed in a collaborative environment under very dynamic (changing) conditions.
- Demonstrates humility while interacting within the company on a daytoday basis.
Work Environment
- Regular hours are 8:00 am 4:00 pm or 9:00 am 5:00 pm, however some flexibility is required when oncall for snowplowing and salting in the winter months.
- Regularly scheduled evening and weekend work and 12 hours shift work may be required.
- Requires working extended periods on his/her feet in a fastpaced environment.
- Commercial Properties to be serviced are in Etobicoke and Vaughan.
- All extra Covid PPEs provided, maintaining distance on job sites.
