Job Summary:


The Program Manager is an expert at delivering programs, and has a high level of expertise in all of the program areas at Camp Yowochas.

The Program Manager works with all of the groups during the Outdoor Education and summer season to understand their needs and develop programs to meet their expectations as well as supporting and supervising staff to ensure best practice is being used in all program areas.

The Program Manager will work alongside the assistant manager to ensure groups are scheduled without conflicts.
This position is full time with shared accommodation and partial board provided

Major Responsibilities:


  • Program Planning _
  • Orient all user groups to Camp Yowochas, develop schedules and provides pre
- and post-camp support to user groups

  • Assist program staff and volunteer committees in their program planning roles
  • Provide technical expertise in all program areas
  • Program Delivery_
  • Participate in Program delivery approximately eight days per month (September to June)
  • Oversee delivery of entire outdoor education program
  • The Program Manager will be the first of the management team to be assigned to work groups. Assistant manager second and Senior Manager third when required.
  • Oversee delivery of summer specialty programs (Voyageurs and Counsellors-InTraining)
  • Provide daytoday supervision and direction for program delivery, ensuring all programs are delivered to Camp Yowochas standards
  • Program Evaluation_
  • Participate in program evaluation and creation of program development goals
  • Program Development_
  • Develop new program options to offer at Camp Yowochas as directed
  • Program Maintenance and Logistics_
  • Ensure the site, equipment and supplies are maintained in a safe and ready condition under the direction of the Operations Manager
  • Direct program staff in their program maintenance and logístical roles
  • Ensure proper recording and control of all program supplies and equipment
  • Make recommendations for the purchase of program supplies and equipment, and make purchases as directed
  • Arrange logistics for all programs
  • Human Resources_
  • Supervise Outdoor Programmers and summer specialty program staff
  • Be a member of the staff recruitment and selection team
  • Be a member of the summer staff training team
  • Be a lead member of the OE staff training team alongside the assistant manager
  • Ensure all program staff maintain current certifications
  • Provide performance appraisals for program staff: informally (verbally) once per month and formally (written) at the end of each staff member's term
  • Coach and discipline staff members with assistance from the center Senior Manager
  • Administration_
  • Assist in center administration as needed
  • Prepare written materials as needed (lesson plans, et cetera)
  • Develop the monthly work schedule for program staff members and assist in keeping personnel records
  • Marketing and Promotion_
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Assist in the implementation of marketing and promotion plans, as directed
  • Serve as a member of the Camp Yowochas Senior Management Team_
  • Adhere to the staff code of conduct and personnel policies
  • Assist in development and implementation of camp plans: marketing, promotion, budget, capital, work, fundraising, business, program, risk management, staff development
  • Act as site supervisor as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required

Qualifications Required:


  • Proven supervisory skills (minimum one year, or two summers)
  • Three years program planning and delivery experience
  • Experience and/or certification or willingness to obtain certification in all program activities offered by Camp Yowochas (e.g. Canoeing, Cross Country Skiing, Kayaking, Ropes Courses, Environmental Education, Leadership Development), National Lifeguard Service is preferred
  • Experience with residential summer camp
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR and Pleasure Craft Operator's Card
  • On site shared residence is a requirement of this position
  • Evening and weekend work is a requirement
  • Hours of work will vary with registered programming

Work Environment

  • Camp Yowochas is a year round center located 80km west of Edmonton on Lake Wabamun
  • On site residence is a requirement of this position, accordingly, room and partial board are provided. For more details regarding living on site policies refer to Camp Yowochas Guidelines for Behaviour.
  • On site on call duty is a requirement of this position. It is a shared responsibility among the Camp Yowochas Management team.
  • Your accommodation must be maintained in accordance with Camp Yowochas living on site policies
  • Evening and weekend work is a requirement
  • Hours of work will vary with registered programming
- when working with user groups, program hours are usually 7:45am to 9:00pm.

$28,800.00 per year
