Civil & Environmental Engineering
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is one of six academic units in the Faculty of Engineering.

Faculty and staff in the department support and foster the educational and research pursuits of undergraduate and graduate engineering students, while providing the best student experience.

The Department aspires to become one of the top Civil Engineering Departments in the world. It will do so by relentlessly pursuing excellent research, faculty profile and graduate and undergraduate education that engages students.


Responsibilities:


The Research Associate part-time position is required for the expanded Northern Tornadoes Project to allow for bilingual media availability and social media support, timely severe weather investigations,and progress toward deliverables related to the Farncombe Donation.


This position will be in the ¿eld Jun-Aug, will be a mix of ¿eld and o¿ce work April-May and Sept-Oct, and will be o¿ce work the rest of the year.


  • Qualifications
    Education:
  • 3-year University Bachelor's Degree in Atmospheric Science, Geography or relevant ¿eld with course(s) taken in meteorology
  • Experience:
  • Working experience in a related academic research environment

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Support project communications via media interviews in French and English and social media monitoring / posting
  • Assist with groundbased storm damage surveys as necessary
  • Assist with analysis of project data and prepare reports
  • Ability to adhere to legislated safety requirements and Western safety policies
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
  • Ability to multitask and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
  • Ability to work in a fluid and evolving work environment with changing deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to work independently and maintain direction and focus through proactive planning and organized approaches to work
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Demonstrated ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
