We are looking for a Lead Hand at our Edgar Pit.


Reporting directly to the Production Supervisor the Lead Hand will supervise the daily activities of the processing plants to process and/or manufacture company products.


The Lead Hand ensures the plants operate smoothly and comply with health and safety and environmental legislation, policies and procedures while producing high quality products.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manages production schedules to ensure that sufficient inventories are available to meet sales requirements
  • Provides routine inspection of machines and equipment to ensure systems are operating at optimum levels
  • Prepares daily production reports for submission to Quarry Superintendent. Explains any significant variance to expected results
  • Supervises subcontractors and consultants engaged for plant or facility construction or modification
  • Gains insight and knowledge into the efficient operation of the site, by consulting coworkers and supervisors and attending training and development courses and seminars. Makes recommendations for improvement where practical
  • Participates in and promotes safety and environmental awareness training
  • Provides supervision to team of production workers to ensure that work is done accurately and efficiently. Provides guidance and motivation, to maintain and enhance competency levels and identify future training requirements
The above responsibilities indicate the general nature and level of work expected. The incumbent may be asked to perform other duties, which may be assigned from time to time.


Skills & Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of production experience or other relevant experience
  • Valid G Ontario Drivers License
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and oversee the routine workload of a small team and provide constructive performance feedback
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems

Specifics and Compensation
This is a full-time role reporting to the Production Supervisor.

Work requires the use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, and fax, photocopy machines as well as two-way radio devices up to 80% of the time.

Work requires the use of heavy mobile equipment up to 20% of the time, with operations increasing to greater than 50% to cover staff absences or site issues.

Compensation for this role also includes an outstanding benefits and pension package. Typical hours are Monday to Friday, morning and/or afternoon shifts, with mandatory Saturdays from 5:30 am - 12:00 pm.
