Established in 1965 Easter Seals Camp Horizon specializes in an accessible and inclusive summer camp experience for individuals with disabilities and medical conditions.

The Jr. Programmer's position is a great opportunity to develop skills in running outdoor education programs. With support from the OE Programmers and Camp Leads the Jr. Programmers will be responsible for developing and running camp programs, doing regular risk assessments, and assisting in cabins.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Complete necessary administrative tasks
  • Facilitating activities such as archery, onsite hikes, camp wide games, etc.
  • Regular risk assessment and management
  • Ongoing maintenance of gear and equipment
  • Promote camper participation by using Challenge by Choice fundamentals
  • Creating welcoming, fun, and inclusive environments for staff and campers
  • Organize and lead various group activities
  • Provide personal care and cabin support as necessary

Your Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities and complex medical needs
  • Ability to work well both in a team and independently
  • Experience in group management and risk assessment
  • Ability to be flexible and support the team were needed (Could be move to "what you'll be doing"
  • Knowledge of Leave No Trace Principles
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C or willingness to complete before start date
  • Caring, compassionate, patient, and outgoing
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather

Working Conditions

  • Contract: June 5th
  • September 1st, 202
  • Onsite in Bragg Creek, AB.
  • 56 days a week 812hr days
  • Outdoors each day in all kinds of weather
  • Working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and abilities

Considered an asset:


  • Experience in group management and risk assessment
  • Postsecondary education in outdoor recreation, outdoor leadership, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience at an overnight summer camp
  • Experience in behavior management and deescalation
  • Any additional outdoor certifications (WFA, ACCT, OCC)
  • Class 4 Alberta license
