Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association is a non-profit community services agency. Since 1976, we have provided community support, home and personal health care services in a holistic manner to seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those with medical needs in the Greater Toronto, York, and Mississauga regions.


With a staff of 500 members (including full-time and part-time staff) and the support of a pool of 850 active volunteers, we serve over 15,000 clients a year, including seniors and the physically disabled; 3,000 of whom are "home-bound" and frail.





TITLE:
Personal Support Worker


TERM:
Full-time Permanent


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Supervise and assist clients with activities of daily living (ie. walking, positioning, transfers, toileting, personal hygiene, eating and feeding)
  • Perform food preparation, table set up, and serving
  • Assist with delivery of activities of daily living, education, and recreation, with other team members based on clients' cognitive and physical capabilities
  • Pickup and dropoff clients from agency vehicles and/or Wheel-Trans at program site
  • Document and report clients' daily progress as required
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the program space and activity areas

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Graduated from a recognized Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate program
  • At least 1 year of experience in a community setting working with seniors
  • Sensitivity to seniors with needs related to aging, physical and mental health
  • Able to perform client transfers and daily living activities; lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stretch, stand for extended period of time
  • Possess a caring attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to work shift hours, including Saturdays
  • Proficiency in English and a second language commonly used by our clients such as Cantonese/Mandarin, is an asset
  • Valid First Aid & CPR certificate, and Food Handlers' certificate
  • Clear vulnerable sector check completed within one year
