Administrative New Full-time Position


Reporting to the Executive Dean, the Dean provides academic, administrative and research leadership to Chairs, faculty and staff in the School.

The incumbent is accountable for the advancement of strategic, operational and research initiatives within the School ensuring alignment with College expectations, procedures and demonstrating continual improvement in results for students, graduates, day-to-day operations, and partnerships.


In consultation with the Executive Dean the incumbent will work closely with Chairs, faculty and staff to grow a culture of research and scholarship across the School.

The Dean is responsible for the ongoing review of full-time and part-time programs, ensuring that programs meet external accreditation and licensing requirements.


The Dean will work closely with the Chairs to support the growth and development of post-secondary programs to increase enrolment, both domestic and international, in the School.

In addition, they will identify new opportunities that will help meet work force needs which may vary depending on geographic region.


The incumbent represents the College and School externally and undertakes in partnerships and fundraising for the School, in consultation with the Executive Dean.


The Dean is a member of Academic Forum, and the Research Coordinating Committee and in consultation with the Executive Dean is also accountable for the planning, development, delivery and ongoing review of full time and part time programs, ensuring programs are relevant to the needs of students and the community at large according to Conestoga's strategic plan.


Responsibilities:


Academic Leadership:


  • Provides academic and operational leadership to the Chairs, managers, and staff
  • Maintains a strong knowledge base of School programs, procedures, policies, resources and services; develop strong relationships with college leadership to effectively liaise, anticipate issues and opportunities and identify trends
  • Aligns resources and initiates professional development as required to support change
  • Collaborates across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own School
  • Engages Academic Chairs in developing and implementing a multiyear plan for growth and change in programs to achieve the Schools' goals for enrolment management and continuing education, ensuring the development of new programs follows College procedure
  • Represents the School internally and externally and identifies potential opportunities to strategically advance the School and the College, including preparing proposals to external bodies as approved by the Executive Dean with input from other senior officials
  • Through the School's Leadership team, fosters a learning culture in the School, with annual recognition of students and employees that complement Collegewide recognition initiatives
  • Guides Chairs and staff in the resolution of student and staff issues

Operational Management:


  • Develops and maintains processes to engage Academic Chairs and Managers in collaborative decisionmaking to engage faculty and staff in the goals of the College and opportunities in the School
  • Engages all parties to support an environment of student success, aligning activities of the School with College expectations for academic procedures, accessibility, and enrolment management
  • Coordinates the annual budget development process per the Executive Dean's direction and College expectations and the midyear adjustment review through engagement of Schools' employees to optimize the use of resources for ongoing sustainability
  • Manages and develops Administrative staff, and in collaboration with HR, oversees the recruitment and development of Schools' Faculty and Support Staff employees
  • Identifies changes to existing facilities and makes requests through the Executive Dean for major changes to support the strategic evolution of the School
  • Ensures that faculty and staff responsibilities are consistent with college policies and procedures

Partnerships & Applied Research:


  • Facilitates the implementation of Program Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings per College expectations and attends meetings when possible
  • Supports and promotes opportunities for scholarship and applied research activity among faculty and staff
  • Supports and promotes a culture of research and innovation across the School
  • Facilitates communication between Office of Research and the School
  • Identifies and advances opportunities for community based research
  • Supports external partnerships to maint
