The Corporate Controller is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing various financial aspects, including finance, payroll, facilities, and enrollment within the organization.

Reporting directly to the Associate Director, Corporate Services, the Corporate Controller plays a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance across all departments.

This Senior Leadership position collaborates with all functional areas, providing financial expertise related to board operations and planning. The position manages all financial and compliance reporting, capital budgets and enrolment decision support.


The Corporate Controller maintains financial integrity, operational efficiency, and compliance across finance, payroll, facilities, and enrollment functions within the organization.

This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, financial acumen, and a commitment to excellence in financial management and administration.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Financial Management

  • Provides ongoing monitoring and financial reports and forecasts, including the preparation of the annual financial statements and budgets.
  • Develops and implements financial policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepares and analyzes financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and financial performance reports for presentation to executive management and stakeholders.
  • Ensures compliance with the Ministry of Education, Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Analyzes/Assesses funding trends and developments that may affect the Board.
  • Directs, supervises, mentors, and develops all finance and payroll staff.
  • Responsible for the management of all audit functions including external, internal and audit committee.
  • Coordinates and completes monthly reports for the senior team and Board and committee meetings.
Facilities and Capital Management

  • Develops capital project budgets, predicts end costs, and controls expenditures.
  • Leads and oversees the coordination of financial project activities to ensure that work proceeds on schedule and within budget.
  • Assists procurement department in contract management issues related to timing and budget.
  • Assists the Associate Director and Executive Manager, Facilities with Capital Project planning including capital priority submissions.
  • Responsible for shortterm accommodation planning and school utilization reporting.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to optimize facility utilization, reduce operating costs, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Enrolment and Decision Support

  • Assists the Associate Director in the projection of student enrolment, staffing and accommodation planning.
  • Collaborates with the Information Technology department in the process of enrolment analysis and verification.
  • Develops and maintains a framework of performance measurement and indicators.
  • Analyzes enrolment data and trends to identify opportunities for enrolment growth and retention strategies.
  • Coordinates enrolmentrelated processes, including admissions, registration, and student records management, to ensure seamless and efficient operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree and/or CPA designation is strongly preferred
  • 710 years of progressively responsible related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a public sector setting.
  • Indepth knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to management in a public sector environment.
  • Expertise and management experience in strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills in a unionized environment.
  • Analytical, evaluation and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
  • Computer skills including spreadsheets, databases, project management and experience with ERP systems including payroll software.
