Position Title:
Settlement Case Manager with Employment and ESL Background, YMCA Newcomer Services


Location:
Robert Lee YMCA (Vancouver, BC), Travel required to other locations.


Terms:
Term, Full-Time


Hours: 35 hours per week (Some evenings and weekends required as per program and operational needs)


Start Date:
As soon as possible


End Date:
March 31, 2024, with possibility of extension based on funding


Salary:
$53,908 annually, includes benefits and 3 weeks paid vacation


Reports to:
Manager, Adult Learning & Newcomer Services


Nature & Scope:


This position is responsible for organizing and delivering a variety of Newcomer Services programs with a focus on Newcomer Youth.

The programs developed are structured to support youth to build skills for meaningful work experiences, by offering life and employability skills workshops, as well as one to one support.

The environment is fast-paced and involves weekend and evening work. The incumbent will be resourceful, flexible, and passionate about supporting Newcomer youth with gaining employment skills.

These programs are designed to help participants improve language skills, connect to the community, career exploration, job search, learn about Canadian workplace culture, workers' rights and responsibilities and more.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Conduct a needs assessment on each participant admitted, into the case management stream.
  • Plan events and program activities tailored for newcomer youth in the community
  • Assist clients to set goals/priorities and develop a realistic action plan which include onetoone, settlement information, individual and group workshops, practical assistance, and supported access to services.
  • Develop, facilitate, and deliver program in group settings and adopts a clientcentered approach to working with newcomer youth and with a focus on ESL
  • Coordinate and supervise program volunteers
  • Provide on going monitoring of action plan(s).
  • Build and maintain community partnerships
  • Community outreach and marketing for the Newcomer Services programs
  • Facilitation of other programs as needed
  • Administrative and reporting tasks as required (entering client information and service interventions into centralized database, narrative reports, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • A minimum of 2 years' relevant work experience, preferably in a newcomer services organization
  • A TESL/TESOL certificate recognized by TESL Canada
  • Experience in the Employment Sector
  • Previous teaching experience
  • A postsecondary degree in a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent coordination, communication, organization skills, and event planning experience
  • Indepth knowledge of immigrant issues and crosscultural communication
  • Experience with community outreach and marketing
  • Proven competence with administration and reporting
  • High degree of independence and ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and Zoom
  • Food safe certificate is an asset
  • Salesforce experience an asset
  • A valid BC Driver's License and access to a vehicle is an asset
  • Fluency in one of the main newcomer languages other than English is an asset (Ukrainian, Russian, Pashto, Dari, etc.)
  • Experience supervising volunteers is an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certificate and food safe.
  • Completion of three successful reference checks
