Summary:


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Ontario Pavement Products Group, the Operations Manager, Cold in Place, will lead all aspects of the specified operations including Health and Safety, financial management, quality assurance and control, marketing & sales, materials performance, and asset management.


As an Operations Manager, Cold in Place you will:

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensure a safe work environment by holding superintendents and foremen accountable to Miller's health, safety, and environment policies.
  • Day to Day Issue Management and Troubleshooting.
  • Resolve major logistics, equipment, and staff resource issues that arise onsite.

Financial & Risk Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate against risk to reduce the likelihood and magnitude of an adverse impact on jobs.
  • Develop the operations budget for direct, indirect, and other costs, review and approve performance status reports on costs.
  • Review and approve budgets, forecasts, and costs to ensure the profitability of jobs.
  • Invoice all jobs in a timely manner.

Operational Productivity

  • Facilitating the allocation of resources (labour, materials, equipment) to support jobs.
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with the customer and other stakeholders to produce positive outcomes on change orders and penalties.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, and engineers.

Bid/Proposal Management

  • Lead activities related to estimating, planning, and scheduling of equipment, material, and labour to ensure profitable bids on tenders.

Subcontractor management

  • Oversee operations of the jobs and maintain relationships with subtrades and clients.
  • Negotiate subcontracts, liaison with owners, and subtrades.
  • Effectively evaluate and select vendors and manage technical aspects of the contracts.

Employee Development & Coaching

  • Provide guidance and technical direction to project coordinators, site superintendents, and foremen during production to successfully complete jobs in accordance with contract, budget, and schedule.


  • Performance Management

  • Assess the performance of crews to ensure effective and efficient operations.

What You Will Bring:


  • 5+ years' experience in leading business growth in Road construction and maintenance
  • Teamfocused "boots on the ground" approach to leadership.
  • Experience in all aspects of operations planning, scheduling, daytoday issues resolution, and coaching staff for superior performance.
  • Ability to build strong respectful relationships and communicate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of budgeting, accounting principles, and contract management.
  • Valid Class G Driver's license and flexibility to meet the significant travel requirements of the role.
  • A business degree or diploma in civil engineering is an asset.
