Reporting to the Administrator, the Resident Programs Manager position is a critical role with overall accountability for the management and leadership of operational activities within the programs and recreation department.


As part of our team, your role as a Resident Programs Manager contributes to our resident experiences in the following ways:

  • Planning, coordinating, directing and monitoring effectiveness of all resident programs and recreation activities within the home, ensuring those activities are aligned to the home's strategic plan, mission and values while meeting the individual needs for all residents.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant legislation including but not limited to: Ministry Acts, regulations, policies and procedures, directives, and collective agreements.
  • Supports recruitment, performance management, training, education and other people related functions within the programs and recreation department.
  • Acts as a support to residents, family members and employees including counseling, orientation to the facility, referrals of residents/family members to appropriate resources and the provision of crisis intervention as required.
  • Fosters effective interpersonal relationships between residents, families and other interdisciplinary health team members in relation to programs and recreation.
  • Leads the onboarding process for all new hires and manages the volunteers across the home.
  • Supports the admissions process for new residents and participates in multidisciplinary conferences.
  • Responds promptly to address resident or family member concerns related to recreation and programs, mediates appropriate responses to those concerns and implements action plans.
  • Supports and provides direction to the Resident's Council, as required.
  • Participates with the interdisciplinary team and in strategic planning for the home.
  • Maintains an organized system of records management for the programs and recreation department.
  • Works in accordance with the organization's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Need:


  • A post secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university.
  • Must have demonstrated supervisory and leadership abilities in a management capacity, preferably in longterm care or a healthcare setting.
  • Strong relationship building abilities and organizing skills with the ability to lead and influence others.
  • Must have a minimum of threefive years of experience working in a Programs and Recreation capacity in the longterm care sector with specialized knowledge of Gerontology.
  • Must posses excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Point Click Care and other computerized documentation systems.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector check.
  • All applicants must provide proof of being fully vaccinated, except due to legitimate established exceptions.
  • Have a passion to promote personcentered care and work with the senior population.
