MAIN PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Track Protection Superintendent. The Railway Foreman is responsible for managing and directing Track Protection Workers to ensure CROR rules are being followed. The Track Protection Supervisor must ensure safety, quality, profitability, and scheduling, resulting in customer satisfaction.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Prepares daily timesheets, work sheets and other reports as required.
  • Promotes, executes and adheres to the company's safety program, and encourage all Track Protection Workers to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Plan the daytoday operations on the assigned project, and ensure that proper resources are in place for the timely completion of work i.e., labour.
  • Take responsibility for Track Protection Workers performance as related to company goals, safety audits, administration of company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct tailgate meetings.
  • Initiate followup action as necessary including training, orientation, discipline, etc.
  • Maintain a dedication to safety at all times by modeling, providing education and enforcing safe work practices, company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that proper safety equipment is available and used by all field personnel.
  • Communicate with the General Contractor and customer to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate with subcontractors to coordinate work, goals, etc.
  • Perform a variety of related administrative tasks such as production reports, timesheets, equipment logs, inspection reports, change orders, and updating project files.
  • Perform other related administrative or project based duties as assigned.
  • Provide coaching and instruction to all Track Protection Workers.
  • Driving of assigned company vehicle.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:


  • Sound understanding of railway engineering safety regulations, safe work practices and work procedures and be capable of assisting in maintaining safe work sites.
  • Able to work in a safetysensitive position, in a unique role directing contractors who are engaged with completing multimillion dollar construction projects on live railway corridors within tight schedules.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:


  • A high school diploma with at least 2 years of related work experience in the protecting of track units and track work or related experiences in railway environments.
  • Lead hand/supervisory experience is required.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License.
  • Canadian Railway Operating Rules certification is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience working within a railway company is a definite asset.
  • Training in railway "Track Inspection Guidelines" or equivalent is an asset.
  • Ability to read instructions, and follow written policies and procedures.
  • Perform duties 24/7/365 in inclement weather, with possible exposure to severe weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and mental alertness in a variety of situations.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Organize, develop, and communicate schedules and goals to crew members.
  • Strong customer relations skills.
  • Excellent vision and hearing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Lead a team and motivate workers.
  • Exercise sound judgment and give clear direction.
  • Work effectively in a team environment as a contributing team player.
