The Accounting Manager is a business accounting specialist with the technical skills and leadership ability to participate in and lead the execution of day-to-day business financial operations including invoicing, payroll, and preparation of financial reporting dashboards/materials in support of senior leadership reporting to Board of Directors.

The Accounting Manager has the ability to identify and implement continuous improvements to accounting related business processes that improve the efficiency of financial operations.


The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the accounting team, include bookkeepers and accounting clerks for the day-to-day execution of accounting operations.

This includes annual budgeting for salaries and other expenses needed to execute financial operations.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ownership of the following business processes in support of project execution
  • Work in process (WIP)
  • Accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Payroll management
  • Key interfaces with:
  • Director of Talent for execution of transactional aspects of HR
  • Director of Operations
  • Studio Heads
  • Accountability and ownership of monthly invoicing cycles, payroll, monthend, and yearend
  • Cashflow forecasting
  • Manage general ledger
  • Prepare departmental annual budget
  • Report directorate quarterly budget status reports
  • Tax planning throughout the fiscal year and filing of annual tax return
  • Ensure proper documentation of transactions and records
  • Establish internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and enforce proper accounting methods
  • Responsible for chart of accounts to ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations
  • Coordination with external auditors to provide needed information for annual audit
  • Detection and reporting of anomalies in company financial transactions
  • Manage and motivate assigned team and operations
  • Conduct performance evaluations for accounting team
  • Contribute to financial related materials to training programs for new and existing staff
  • Support continued rollout and optimization of firm ERP system
  • Problem solving, investigations and business process optimization to improve efficiency of financial operations in the firm

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration OR 10 years of equivalent experience
  • 510 years of experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping for a firm that requires cyclical invoicing
  • Experience in the accounting operations of a professional services firm is not mandatory but is considered a strong asset
  • Experience and proficiency with Unanet A/E is considered a strong asset
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Adept at dealing with people in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Use of Microsoft operating system and Microsoft Office Suite to navigate a server environment and prepare documents.
  • Valid driver's license, and owner of a car
