Overview:
Term: 8 months
Custodian I performs routine cleaning duties within assigned facilities, contributing towards providing a safe and accessible, invitingly clean and comfortable, functionally-enriched and well-maintained campus environment through service excellence.
CUPE Wage rate:
$23.64/hour.
Payment of union dues applicable.
Ability to work evening or night shift.

Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning
- Supports strategic planning efforts addressing stewardship responsibilities and longterm sustainability of the University's campus, facilities and infrastructure and maximizing opportunities for efficient delivery of campus services and optimal investments in Universitywide infrastructure
- In consideration of the University's commitment to the safety and wellbeing of all faculty, support staff, students, and visitors, responsible for ensuring University facilities and departmental activities are compliant with all applicable legislation, regulations, codes and standards related to facilities operations as well as occupational health and environmental safety
- Active in health and safety and incident prevention by adhering to departmental policy, procedures and safe work practices required by the University health, safety, and environmental management system (HSEMS), and in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation, developing and enhancing a safety culture among support staff
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned and supports departmental activities
Qualifications:
- Up to high school or equivalent
- Minimum one (1) year recent custodial experience is essential
- Work experience in a major institutional sector(s), such as education, postsecondary education, medical/ hospital or service industry, is preferred
- Must maintain a clear Police Criminal Record Check
- Use of hazardous workplace materials, including chemical cleaning products, and powered/ nonpowered equipment and tools, including floor polishers, vacuum cleaners and floor scrubbers
- Routine physical activities include standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting and carrying light (up to 5kg or 11lb), medium (5 to 20kg or 11 to 44lb), and/or heavy (over 20kg or 44lb) objects, pushing, pulling, working in an awkward position and/or maintaining one position for a long period
- Shift work hours include evening and nighttime
- May be exposed to biohazardous materials, including bodily fluids, vomit, urine, blood etc., requiring appropriate handling and disposal
