Position


The Research Assistant works under the supervision of the Directors, Associate Directors, Operations Manager, and Research/Project Coordinators at ARCHE (Alberta Research Centre for Health Evidence).

This Research Assistant will assist with knowledge synthesis tasks as part of a research team with other staff including project coordinators, clinical leads, librarians, statisticians, and other research assistants.

This work will contribute towards informing local and national stakeholders in their decision making about various clinical and health-related issues


This position will be assigned to one primary project but will also assist on other projects, assignments, and initiatives established by the Principal Investigator on an as needed basis.

Supervision and activities will be assigned by the Project and Research Coordinator(s).


Duties

  • Provide support for ongoing knowledge synthesis research projects, including systematic reviews, rapid reviews, scoping reviews, methodological research, knowledge translation, and other related tasks.

As directed by the project/research coordinator(s) activities include:
- implement study protocols
- screening complex research articles
- data extraction, data checking, data entering
- develop and completion of evidence and results tables
- database development (e.g., developing templates for data extraction, developing databases for online surveys)
- data verification, data cleaning, and manipulation, including preparing data for statistical analysis
- data analysis (e.g., running descriptive statistics, entering data into appropriate software and running basic meta-analyses with input from project leads and statistician)
- complete consensus with other RAs to ensure the validity of decisions
- report and manuscript preparation
- participate in regular meetings to provide progress on activities with project/research coordinator(s)

  • Contribute to content of reports and manuscripts for publication
- verify sources of data
- write sections on methods used and results
- develop extensive evidence tables

  • Assist as a resource to other research projects as identified by the ARCHE/EPC/SPOR Directors
  • Work in collaboration with all ARCHE team members, faculty, and staff.
  • Attend and participates in research study/group meetings, Journal Clubs
  • Provides support to Directors to prepare and maintain their curriculum vitae in various formats
  • Assists Directors with meeting scheduling and setup of teleconferences and group meetings and Journal Clubs
  • All other tasks as required and identified by the ARCHE Directors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BSc or higher training in a health related discipline
  • Minimum two years' experience working in a research environment; experience in Epidemiology, Statistics, Public Health or a related field is preferred
  • Experience with conducting systematic reviews, or knowledge of systematic review methodology would be an asset
  • Experience with database software including database development is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), prioritization, organizational
