Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager HSE, the Senior Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for providing Environmental, Health and Safety guidance and support to the Power System Services (PSS) and Production Operation divisions at our Toronto manufacturing facility.

You will play a pivotal role in encouraging and ensuring the continuous improvement of Health and Safety performance at S&C by conducting regular audits, identifying key risks, recommending and preparing actions plans, and working with the operations team to ensure full compliance.


You will provide advice and guidance on Health & Safety matters for our Canadian division by reviewing trends and target areas for improvement; deliver Health and Safety training, and work with the PSS and operations team on specific projects.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develop and manage policies, procedures, and reporting systems for PSS Safety program. Continually review these to ensure consistency with standards, legislation, regulatory changes, safety requirements, industry best practice and the needs of the company.
  • Conducts orientation with new employees on all health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain records of thirdparty contracts relevant to health, safety, and environmental issues and legislation including, but not limited to ISNetworld and Avetta
  • Produces monthly analysis of safety documentation and statistics.
  • Actively participate in claims management, including return to work.
  • Perform safety monitoring and interpret data, prepare written reports, documenting testing methodology, observations, results, and recommendations.
  • Review all incident investigation reports and make suggestions to prevent reoccurrence and assist in the development of corrective action.
  • Research and stay current with health and safety industry trends; identify opportunities to be innovative in program development and delivery
  • Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee; encourage worker input and involvement in a meaningful manner.
  • Conduct internal (manufacturing environment) and external (PSS Field Work) safety inspections and audits as prescribed and follow up with the required corrective actions.
  • Participate in manufacturing and PSS meetings to discuss workplace safety and regulatory concerns and opportunities.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental (EHS) Studies or a related field is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working within EHS capacity
  • Experience working within the electrical/manufacturing industry
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of the low voltage and high voltage electrical safety work practices including applicable CSA Standards along with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its Regulations (Industrial Establishments & Construction).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills,
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven ability to coach, train, and mentor to a variety of audiences (field services, senior management, and corporate staff)
- flexibility to provide health and safety support on the day and afternoon shift as needed

  • Ability to travel up to 30% within Canada, primarily Ontario

Physical Effort:

Normal or frequent minor physical effort required for the day-to-day activity in the workplace. Involves mainly sitting at desk and performing computer work. May involve standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs and lifting/moving/using objects or equipment up to 5kg/11lbs


Travel:

Approximately 30% within Canada


Work Environment:

Acceptable working office environment with minor or almost no disagreeable or challenging working conditions as part of every day expected levels (all jobs will occasionally experience undesirable or disagreeable events e.g. spending time in the plant)
