Saw Operator - Vaughan, Canada - Magna International/Tycos Tool & Die

Description

Magna International/Tycos Tool & Die is looking for a Saw Operator to join our team.

The Saw Operator will operate equipment within the saw department to cut steel with mínimal input and direction from senior team members.

The position will also plan and prioritize the cutting of steel and monitor and maintain steel inventory levels with mínimal guidance.

He/she will conduct general maintenance on equipment within the department and may provide instruction to junior team members.

• Type of Saws: Katso Horizontal Band Saws; Plate size: up to 50" x 181" and 30 ton capacity
• Use GSS to track hours relating to stock list components and daily work activities
• Use Saw Cutting Stock List to mark off items cut and save information needed using drop boxes
• Locate work orders and mould components that need to be cut
• Operate all equipment in the saw department with mínimal supervision.
• Use crane and forklift devices independently
• Understand and demonstrate safe operation of magnets
• Demonstrate an understanding of materials used
• Acquire job numbers for awarded jobs, cut the order and arrange for shipping
• Support Shipping/Receiving by loading/unloading trucks as needed, putting away inventory, strapping completed jobs onto skids, etc.
• Perform hardness tests on all major blocks as per work instruction
• Begin to crosstrain in other departments/subdepartments to enhance skillsets, provide scheduling flexibility and support Tycos' overall sustainability
• Train others on saw department processes
• Participate in standardized work processes and 5S initiatives
• Work on various shifts with mínimal supervision; Customer demands may require additional hours of work

Qualifications:


Education:

• Minimum completion of Grade 12 diploma, or equivalent

Experience:

• Previous tool shop experience preferably in an automotive manufacturing environment
• Completed Saw Operator Level 1 job criteria

Skills:

• Able to obtain overhead crane and forklift licenses
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS) and Outlook
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Accurate measuring abilities in both Metric and Imperial (including measurement calculations)
• Bending, lifting, clamping on a continuous basis
• Able to lift steel blocks/bars (maximum 30 lbs) consistently and on a daily basis

Competencies:

• Must be selfmotivated and able to work with very little supervision

Salary:
$24.00-$32.00 per hour
