Western's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (SSMD) is a leading Canadian centre of outstanding education and research shaping health care for the next generation and is the largest and most complex faculty on campus.


The Basic Medical Science Graduate & Undergraduate office consists of centralized student services that oversee the administration of the BMSc program, Neurosciences program, IMS program and the Graduate and Postdoctoral Scholars programs.

Each unit is led by an Associate Dean or Academic Director.


Responsibilities:


The Experiential Learning Coordinator will be primarily responsible for seeking out, developing, and supporting course-based (for credit) experiential learning opportunities for the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry students.

Examples of experiential learning include laboratories, simulations, role playing, case studies, and community-engaged learning.

The role will be responsible for identifying opportunities for experiential learning to be incorporated in courses at Schulich and assisting with the administrative duties associated with those opportunities.

The Experiential Learning Coordinator assists instructors and staff with the development and implementation of experiential learning in undergraduate and graduate courses.

The role will build and manage a robust network of organizations related to the biomedical field to market and promote Western's programs and identify Community Engaged Learning (CEL) & Experiential Learning (EL) opportunities for students.

Additionally, the role will effectively and efficiently implement, and support centralized administrative procedures related to new and existing undergraduate and graduate programs for the School.

The role will also support the School's co-curricular activities such as the Medical Science Community Outreach (MaSCOt) program.


Qualifications:


  • Education:
  • Undergraduate Degree in a related field
  • Experience:
  • 3 years' experience liaising and managing client relationships; experience in business development or sales; experience planning and implementing recruitment strategies
  • 3 years' experience providing administrative support and coordination in a higher education institution
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Familiarity with best practices for maintaining, seeking out and developing business relationships and partnerships
  • Specific knowledge for increasing skills related to job seeking
  • Knowledge of relevant external partners with an ability to match their needs with the competencies of students from various programs
  • Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices
  • Communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Compelling and persuasive communication skills to engage individuals and teams inside and outside the University
  • Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate retention and destruction of information
  • Ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations
