Description
The Accounting Assistant II provides purchasing and other accounting support to the Utilities department at Strathcona County.

This includes providing department support for the analyzing, tracking, and reporting on the department's expenditures of an operating budget of approximately $60 million and a capital budget of approximately $5 million.


Responsibilities:


  • Support the purchase and payment process of supplies, materials, and services for the Utilities department
  • Process and coordinate the department's day to day purchasing activities such as creating purchase requisitions, receiving of purchase orders and maintaining standing purchase order spreadsheet
  • Act as liaison with Project Managers, Supervisors and staff to ensure all corporate, department and municipal purchasing policies, processes, and guidelines are met
  • Responsible for entering employee expenses made on corporate purchasing cards on behalf of department employees
  • Provide administrative contract process support to the department
  • Provide system and purchasing support to the department
  • Support department accounting and financial functions as required

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma with a minimum of five (5) years related accounting experience
  • Postsecondary certification or diploma in accounting is preferred
  • Completion of courses related to purchasing is an asset
  • Municipal government experience is an asset
  • Experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP is an asset
  • Extensive knowledge and computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, and Excel to utilize, analyze and process pertinent information accurately and productively
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to work and meet deadlines with mínimal supervision in a demanding environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capability to work in a team environment, sharing in the departments responsibilities and assisting in the different areas as required
