Location:
Woodside branch


Hours: 35 hours per week with ability to work all shifts (days, evenings, and weekends)

In this role, you'll support the public, collection and library operations within a branch to provide services that strive to Inspire Oakville.


What you'll do

As a Branch Assistant you will:

  • Provide inclusive customer service, adhering to AODA's customer service standard, and OPL's Five Customer Experience Values, which includes but not limited to assistance with circulation of materials and account information
  • Act as the incharge person when Branch Supervisors and/or Managers are not present
  • Understand and promote OPL resources, programs and services
  • Conduct indepth reference and inclusive readers' services to the public, in person, by telephone and digitally.
  • Prepare, moderate and facilitate inperson, offsite and virtual programs and outreach to customers of all ages. Provide input for possible future programs. Create and maintain relationships with external groups.
  • Support and guide users with ongoing digital literacies in an evolving digital world, including software and equipment, online and print information, mobile devices and 3D printing.
  • Support and promote selfservice technology and provide technical support to customers
  • Assist with collection maintenance and promote diverse library collections
  • Advocate for continuous improvement to support the evolving needs at the branch
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and continuous skils development.
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, other relevant health and safety legislation, and the OPL's Health & Safety Program
  • Input data as required for programs, room rentals and library services
  • Support and supervise summer student volunteers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Your experience and educational background:


  • Master in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or undergraduate degree with Library and Information Technician diploma
  • A minimum of two (2) years of related library work experience
  • Experience with an integrated library system
  • Working knowledge of 3D printers, RFID, and Microsoft Office
