For over 70 years, John Ross & Sons have been a leader in the international metal market and the largest scrap metal recycling facility in Atlantic Canada.
We are looking for an experienced and skilled Yard Supervisor to join our dynamic and growing team in TruroPrimary Responsibilities:
- Reporting directly to the operations manager.
- Lead teams, and operate recycling processing machinery, ensuring daily production targets are achieved.
- Investigate, diagnose, and follow up on any mechanical issues as required.
- Adhere to and monitor compliance with all company policies, procedures, safety policies and business ethics.
- Monitor opportunities to maximize system performance and identify new production methods.
- Responsible for supervising and promoting an accidentfree and compliant workplace by ensuring safety requirements, instructions, and best working practices are implemented to address risks.
- Train staff to develop and achieve all work objectives and evaluate performance on a regular basis.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment and prepare reports to submit to management.
- Operate a bobcat, skid steer, winch, or other machinery used for transporting or shipping materials when needed.
- Track inventory of incoming and outgoing items.
- Carefully handle and dispose of hazardous waste materials whenever necessary.
- Able to find suitable solutions for productivity, safetyrelated, and employee issues.
- Ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments, deal with multiple tasks, and thrive in a highly active, fastpaced working environment.
- Lead and develop teams in all designated areas in the yard.
- Sundry duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent).
- Must be availableMonday to Friday, 7:00 am 5:00 pm; Saturday, 7:00 am12:00 pm.
- 3+ years experience in staff management, appraisal, development and planning (industryrelated experience as an asset).
- 3+ years experience in demolition/construction/scrap metal industry an asset.
- 3+ years of experience operating forklifts, bobcats, and other heavy equipment required.
- Computer Literacy, ideally with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Metal Knowledge an asset
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage numerous projects at one time.
- Abler to analyze, develop, establish, and maintain efficient workflow processes.
- CSA certified steeltoed footwear.
- Ability to carry and lift up to
50lbs repetitively. - Able to work in all weather conditions (including extreme cold, heat, and inclimate weather.)
- Able to be on your feet for extended periods of time, with significant walking and moderate physical activity for large parts of the day.
