HOURS: 37.5 Hours per week, Monday through Friday.

In this role, the Circle Keeper facilitates and fosters a safe and comfortable safe for Ubuntu Members.

The Circle Keeper creates workshops, forums, and conferences through an indigenous lens by incorporating traditions such as the talking piece, smudge and prayer, and storytelling.

The overarching goal is to provide children and families with support and bring about positive outcomes.

Position Responsibilities

  • Foster an environment where children and families feel comfortable confronting and addressing harm and trauma; guide the group through practices that encourages participation and conversation towards positive outcomes
  • Take on the role of a facilitator, liaison, mediator, and mentor
  • Facilitate, plan and coordinate family group conference, sharing circles, healing circles & ceremonies
  • Acknowledge members' experience and background
  • Raise awareness and educate staff, volunteers and Ubuntu members
  • Perform other sundry duties as necessary
  • BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and/or relevant work experience (lived experience is also an asset)
  • Experience with family group conferencing and circle keeping preferred
  • Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license, and ability to provide a clear abstract and insurance with 2 million liability
  • Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
