We are currently looking to fill the position of Ophthalmic Assistant (Mandarin/Cantonese Speaking)

Job Purpose:


The Ophthalmic Assistant supports multiple ophthalmologists in the effective day-to-day functioning of their practice by performing clerical and clinical duties in the diagnosis and care of their patients.


This includes, but is not limited to:
taking patient histories, chief complaint, and performing other testing necessary in preparation for the patient's visit.


Duties and Responsibilities_:
_


  • Implements appropriate patient flow in coordination with front office staff
Receives and prepares patients for exams or treatments by taking patient histories:
complete medical and ophthalmic and ocular histories, systemic illness (past and
present), family histories, medications, and allergies

  • Performs diagnostic tests and report results to physician, including tonometry, refraction, pachymetry, visual field testing (Humphrey), OCT and HRT
  • Performs patient workups including measuring near and far visual acuity, pupillary
assessment, lensometry and applanation tonometry, pupil reaction and dilation.

  • Explains purpose and procedures for tests
  • Explains possible side effects and follow up procedures
  • Schedules and handles all preoperative, preparation with ocular surgical patients
including surgical instrumentation set up for minor in-office surgical procedures

  • Selects appropriate surgical instruments, equipment prepared in procedures room.
  • Conveys test results to patients
  • Updates EMR patient records
  • Performs clerical duties, including reception as and when required
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment
  • Completes basic instrument and equipment maintenance; identification of problems and arrangement of repairs.
  • Orders and stocks supplies; liaises with drug company representatives
  • Completes any other related ophthalmic tasks as assigned

Job Types:
Full-time, Permanent


Salary:
$17.50-$20.00 per hour
