WeAre WSP**What you can expect to do here:
- Identifying potential environmental constraints in relation to proposed developments (e.g., wetlands and vegetation, species at risk, invasive species);
- Planning and conducting field assessments to industry standards and preparing reports for projects within a variety of sectors (e.g., transportation, municipal infrastructure, renewable energy, and oil and gas sector);
- Completing terrestrial ecosystem mapping fieldwork, desktop mapping, and reporting;
- Analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting vegetation data using spatial GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS) and statistical programs (e.g., RStudio);
- Collaborating with other professionals on multidisciplinary projects;
- Interacting with clients, staff, and regulatory agencies;
- Preparing, designing, and implementing project/study work plans with a focus on terrestrial, wetland and aquatic ecosystems;
- Completing vegetation and ecosystems baseline surveys and/or assessments;
- Performing background research and analysis, including consultation with government agencies;
- Executing sitespecific field data collection for the Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment Team throughout BC;
- Promoting health and safety in the workplace;
- Delivering highquality, wellwritten reports on time and within budget, drawing upon technical and scientific knowledge, training and experience;
- Working within a team environment and communicating effectively with all levels of staff; and Being involved in field work, travel, and other duties as assigned/required.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- A desire to work in an equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace with a positive culture that celebrates innovation and learning;
- A diploma, undergraduate or graduate degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Ecological Restoration or another relevant natural resource managementrelated field;
- 3+ years of experience working as an applied vegetation ecologist;
- Specialization in plant identification, and vegetation ecology. Additional consideration may be given to applicants with soil classification and/or wetland classification experience;
- Experience conducting ecological and vegetation field assessments/data collection;
- Proficient in photo interpretation to delineate and classify ecosystems in BC;
- Basic GIS skills and understanding (e.g., ArcGIS experience);
- Experience with construction activities and liaising with contractors;
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation;
- Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) or BIT (Biologist in Training) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment;
- Effective time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to write detailed technical reports and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues;
- Ability to function in a team environment with representatives from a wide array of disciplines;
- Valid BC Driver's License and ability to drive to site;
- Willingness to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations and outside standard office hours; Critical thinking
Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $62,600 - $106,600
WSP Canada is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it will pay for this position based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to the specific geographic location.
