    Redpath Sugar is located on Toronto's historic downtown waterfront and has been a part of Canada's heritage for more than 160 years. Our brand is the oldest food-related trademark in Canada and is recognized across the country. Redpath Sugar is part of ASR Group, the largest cane sugar refiner in the world.

    Overview


    The Sr. Process Engineer is responsible for technical support of refinery operation with specific emphasis on process improvement through continuous improvements, process changes and hardware upgrades. Scope of improvement efforts to be primarily throughput, energy and water efficiency, safety, environment and quality. The role is located at the Redpath Toronto Sugar Refinery, the largest refinery in Canada and the most energy efficient refinery in North America.

    Roles & Responsibilities


    Review existing operations and identify opportunities for improvement using sound engineering principles. Use continuous improvement tools as the primary methodology to identify, quantify, direct and implement refinery improvements. Work with operators to understand the current state and collaboratively develop and implement process improvements. Justify, design, install and commission capital projects up to $500,000. Technical liaison including production/maintenance employees, plant technical and management resources, corporate engineering and R&D organizations. Monitor the technical performance of the plant, in particular, energy, water, sucrose loss, productivity, cost and product quality. Report situations where the plant is not meeting identified technical targets and recommend corrective actions. Interfaces with all departments, in particular, Quality, Process, Maintenance, Projects and Packaging.

    Work Experience


    Minimum of 10 years of experience with process operations in a manufacturing environment.

    Education Requirements


    Bachelor degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
    Strong written and verbal communication skills

    Essential Capabilities


    Demonstrated ability to challenge the status quo and be a change agent for process improvements. Confidently use sound engineering principles to challenge existing operations and develop improvements. Experience of continuous improvement methodology e.g. Lean Six Sigma tools. Ability to confidently engage operators to understand the processes that are in place and provide coaching during improvements. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization. Project design/development experience considered an asset Being able to prepare PFD's & P&ID's with electronic CAD tools considered an asset Familiar with broad range of process systems & material handling equipment
