Since 1997, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) has delivered public safety services on behalf of the government of Ontario.

Position Summary:

Support the Stakeholder Relations team in developing and preserving strong, positive relations with stakeholders. This position will report directly to the Manager, Stakeholder Relations.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist the Vice President and Manager in the execution of strategies as they relate to stakeholder relations
  • Develop positive and effective working relationships with government advisors, liaise as necessary and update relevant TSSA staff accordingly
  • Maintain database of stakeholder events and other opportunities for TSSA outreach.
  • Act as the primary advisor on issues management including handling requests from stakeholders
  • Handle emerging issues that may present a risk or opportunity for TSSA
  • Work collaboratively with communications staff on issues and new initiatives to ensure messaging is current and appropriate
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations, briefing notes, position papers, and action plans on policy issues
  • Work with the Regulatory Policy Team to identify potential upcoming issues and develop action plans to address them
  • Aid in the execution of department and wider TSSA projects

Job Qualifications:


  • University or College degree in communications, journalism, public relations, political science, business, public administration, or related field.
  • Min. 35 years of relevant experience in public policy issues management and/or working in government or stakeholder relations roles. Specific experience working in or with the Government of Ontario or an Ontario public sector entity will be given additional consideration.
  • Relationship management and partnership building skills with internal and external contacts
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including writing, editing and tailoring materials for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to reach wellinformed, independent conclusions and advise on solutions
  • Understanding of public policy and relevant legislation, regulations and codes
  • Sound knowledge of the provincial government and able to stay informed about current trends and developments in TSSA regulated industries.
