Are you interested in helping gather information to improve our community?
The City of St. Albert is conducting a Municipal Census from May 6 to June 27, 2024, to gather population and demographic information.

The census data helps the City identify upcoming needs in different areas as well as enhance existing programs and services.

It provides essential information for planning transportation, schools, utilities, roads, emergency services, recreational facilities, and economic development.

The results also help secure provincial and federal grants that are awarded based on population count and play an important role in supporting funding projects.


While the census will be conducted online, a door-to-door enumeration of the community will be required for those that could not complete the online census.

The door-to-door enumeration will begin May 27, 2024 and finish on or before June 27, 2024 and we require Supervisors to oversee the work of the enumerators.


The Opportunity


As an Area Supervisor, you will monitor and coordinate the activities of all Enumerators within your census area and ensure the timely and accurate collection of required census information.


Your specific duties will include:

  • Knowing the contents of your training manual.
  • Knowing your Census area study your maps and enumerators' routes.
  • Ensuring full support, guidance and information is provided to your Enumerators.
  • Maintaining good relations with residents.
  • Emphasizing enumerator safety.
  • In unusual circumstances, Supervisors may be required to complete the doortodoor canvassing with or in lieu of the enumerator.
  • Keeping in contact with City Officials to advise how Enumerators are progressing and any challenges encountered.
  • Possible opportunity to assist with census troubleshooting via telephone with residents.
  • Completing Enumerator evaluations.
  • Liaising with the Quality Assurance Coordinator to ensure the accuracy of the data collection.

Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory and census, enumeration, or doortodoor canvassing experience is required.
  • Basic iPad/computer skills.
  • Comfort with learning and utilizing new software.
  • You must be available to attend mandatory training sessions on May 6 and May 13, 202
  • Physically capable of a great deal of walking and/or climbing stairs.
  • Able to provide own transportation to sites.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, professional and friendly demeanor.

Hours of Work
Ability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, and weekends. Generally, requires 20 to 30 hours per week from May 2- June 27, 2024.

Enumeration hours will fall within 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 11 noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays.


Compensation

  • An Area Supervisor can anticipate earning an estimated average of $1,200 to $1,800, which is dependent on Census Enumerator District assignments and completion.
  • Bonuses for accurate targets achieved are available (more detail will be provided in your Offer letter).
