Position Summary:
The Edmonton Remand Centre is a correctional facility that houses individuals who are awaiting trial. The Remand Centre houses both male and female inmates. The Edmonton Remand Centre Facilitator will oversee the Programming for this centre. The Facilitator will help to create awareness by providing creating, reviewing, and facilitating free workshops to participants.
These workshops provide program participants with skills and knowledge in these areas to prepare them for their release back into the community.
Facilitator also responds to inquiries about various resources and services that may be available to inmates during and after their incarceration.
Responsibilities:
- Provides coaching, mentorship and skillbuilding opportunities to participants engaged in the program.
- Facilitate workshops at the Edmonton Remand Centre on Communications, Financial Literacy, Stress Management, Employment Preparation and Pre-Release Planning.
- Responsible for lesson planning, preparation and ensuring all teaching materials are current and relevant.
- Seeks to build supportive and responsive relationships with participants utilizing a traumainformed and resiliency perspective.
- Respond to inmate requests by conducting interaction with participants in a professional manner, maintaining healthy professional boundaries in all participant interactions.
- Liaise with Edmonton Remand Centre staff and other organizations within the center to maintain strong working relationships.
- Serve as a strong advocate on behalf of Edmonton John Howard Society and program participants.
- Ensures professional skills used to provide services and supports to participants reflect best practices by engaging in a process of continuous learning and professional development.
- Adhere to EJHS's and the Edmonton Remand Centre's policies and procedures.
- Consult with supervisor as needed to ensure participant needs are addressed.
Qualifications / Skills:
- Diploma in human services or a related field, degree preferred.
- 2 years of experience specific to supporting incarcerated individuals
- 5 years of experience working with the offender population would be considered an asset.
- Experience designing and implementing lesson plans appropriate for the audience
- Previous facilitation experience
- Ability to work independently
- Professional within all aspects of employment and able to contribute to a strong team environment
- Ability to work within a high stress, fast paced environment
- Criminal Record Check and Enhanced Reliability
Conditions of Employment:
This position is located at the Edmonton Remand Centre, 8:00am - 4:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and a split day on Wednesday with the morning (8:00am - 12:00pm) at the Remand Centre and the afternoon (1:00pm - 4:00pm) at the Transition Place Building, St NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 1C4.
Salary:
The salary range for this position is $47,000 to $52,000 annually.
