Are you a person who is passionate about supporting the Indigenous Street Community through land-based and cultural activities? The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society (ACEH) is looking for a land-based healing support worker to assist in assembling and organizing land-based healing camps and day events/programming.

The ACEH is dedicated to offering cultural programming and camps to the Indigenous Street Community while offering Indigenous Alcohol Harm Reduction and Cannabis Substitution programs safely while out on the land.

Wage:
$24.00 per hour


Location:
Broughton Street and on the land at camps as required

You are required to submit a resume and cover letter that highlights Indigenous ancestry, Indigenous community/organization involvements, education, certification, demonstrated contract experience, and how your knowledge, skills, and abilities will support and contribute to the ACEH and our community through a cultural lens.

Responsibilities:


  • Support with watering, harvesting, and maintaining House of Courage, SPAKEN House, and UVIC garden plots.
  • Support with the leadership of landbased healing camps, administration of Indigenous Alcohol Harm Reduction and Cannabis Substitution programs.
  • Support in handing out and helping complete necessary documentation and surveys.
  • Help develop and follow camp and event itineraries, care plans, and travel plans.
  • Support with organizing supplies for events and completing inventory.
  • Support with preparing food and beverages for events.
  • Support completing any necessary documentation (i.e., photo release forms, honoraria etc.).
  • Spend quality time and engage in activities with Family Members.
  • Other activities as required.

Required Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working within the Housing Sector and aware of available community wraparound supports.
  • Experience in community development will be considered an asset.

Required Information:


  • Willing and able to complete a Criminal Record Check through the Ministry of Justice for working with vulnerable adults.
  • Valid BC Driver's License.
  • Dependable vehicle.
  • Two workrelated references (no more than three years old).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Ability to work respectfully, knowledgeably, and effectively with partners and First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people, adapting to cultural uniqueness to create a sense of safety for all;
  • Knowledge of providing culturally and traumainformed care; Understanding the intergenerational trauma that occurs because of colonization, Residential Schools, Sixties Scoop, and other oppressive systems, as well as the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
  • Ability to learn from other leaders and Elders, modeling the vision and encouraging others to commit to and champion the vision inspiring others into new ways of working together to provide excellent wraparound support services within a cultural lens and approach.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work holistically, professionally, and nonjudgmentally as you work with a broad range of personalities, needs, cultures, lived experiences, and abilities.
  • Positive, encouraging, flexible, and reliable.
  • Progressive understanding of mental health challenges, chronic alcoholism, substance use, and addictions, and the resulting impacts on overall health, wellbeing, and quality of life.
