This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).


In accordance with the Temporary Librarian, Administrative and Professional Staff (TLAPO) Agreement, this position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and annual salary range of $61,391 to $102,355.

This position has an initial appointment of one year with a possibility of extension.


Location:

This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person and work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton.

Position Summary
The Faculty of Engineering has established the Centre for Energy and Mineral Processing (CEMP).

The centre will support research in topics related to energy systems, greenhouse gas mitigation, net-zero energy transitions, mineral processing and other related areas.


Reporting to the Faculty General Manager and working with the Centre Director, the Centre Operations Lead is responsible for the activities related to the establishment, outreach and functioning of the centre.


The Centre Operations Lead is directly engaged in activities that foster positive relationships with the research community that result in increased awareness of and engagement with the centre, investment in research in the targeted areas of energy and contributing to the overall research goals of the centre and the university.


Duties
Management of the Centre

  • Supporting and overseeing the administration of research projects
  • Creation and maintenance of plans and procedures
  • Organizing committee meetings and followup on action items
  • Oversee the financial management of the centre working collaboratively with finance partner
  • Liaising with industry partners and seeking new partners
  • Sourcing and organizing visiting speakers and other centre events
  • Working closely with Principal Investigators to develop projects
  • Other duties as required
Scientific Research Communications

  • Preparing technical reports on key topics
  • Preparing brochures and working collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications team
  • Seeking grant opportunities in energy related areas and supporting members to be aligned to those areas
  • Identifying new partnerships
  • Preparing funding proposals
  • Acting as communications liaison for internal and external communications including updating research proposals, communicating with external stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science
  • 13 years of experience in the engineering field or in a university setting
  • Innovative selfstarter, with the ability to manage priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, intuitive and empathetic listening skills and presentation skills
  • Highly organized with high attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or doctoral degree related to energy (Engineering, Natural or Applied Science)
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: research, research management, scientific communication, industrial liaison, is considered an asset
