The workforce consists of teachers, office staff, custodial staff, education assistants and professional staff. The workforce is largely unionized through PDSB's numerous affiliated bargaining agents.
Reporting to Supervisor of Payroll, the Payroll Specialist position will support the Payroll department in all aspects of payroll processing.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the members of the Payroll, Benefits, HR and Finance departments to support all aspects of employee pay such as onboarding, position changes, grid movement, statutory leaves, sick leaves and other employment events, to ensure that they are reflected and remunerated properly.
Providing specialist level support for the payroll cycle related to ASG, OPSEU 283, OPSEU 292, casual employee groups including LRS, School Monitors, Tutors and Students and other employee groups as assigned.
The successful applicant will be the first point of contact for payroll with respect to employee salary changes, monitoring and addressing overpayments, issuing manual cheques, advances and Records of Employment.
Additional duties include supporting the coordination and organization of payroll workload and incoming requests and inquiries.Training and oversight of new, acting or LTO staff, assisting within audits, system testing, documenting processes and completing forms for EI, insurance companies and WSIB.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Post-secondary diploma/degree related to Payroll Administration or equivalent related education
Minimum of two to three years direct experience in Payroll Administration
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal), documentation and presentation skills
Working knowledge and experience with large payroll system and understanding of payroll and benefits
Demonstrated initiative, problem solving, decision making, troubleshooting, technical and analytical skills
Ability to work effectively with limited supervision and as a member of a team
Demonstrated effective coordination, organizational and planning skills
Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy, ability to manage multiple priorities and meet timelines and maintain confidentiality
Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, HRIS, SharePoint)
Knowledge of relevant collective agreements and Board policies and procedures

Record of satisfactory-on-the-job performance while employed by the Peel District School Board
