Invest Vancouver is seeking a Research Coordinator who will plan, organize, and coordinate research projects, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, and actively participating in research activities. Responsibilities include establishing and coordinating research schedules, undertaking assigned research in an efficient and effective manner to support the completion of the research project, and development of the final outputs. This can include primary research through interviews, stakeholders, surveys, and focus groups, review of various academic and industry reports, and searching specialized data platforms. The Research Coordinator will evaluate and compile data, identify trends, and collaborate with senior members of the department to develop insights and actionable recommendations. The Research Coordinator actively contributes to industry and economic reports writing, preparation of presentations, investor-focused documents, and other materials for internal and external audiences, including Metro Vancouver advisory committees, and social media and web content.

As an excellent communicator with written and verbal communication skills, you engage with diverse stakeholders and effectively communicate research findings to various audiences. You are a collaborative team player, working well with multidisciplinary teams and establishing and maintaining working relationships with various stakeholders. Your intellectual curiosity keeps you always learning, highly motivated, and enthusiastic, enabling you to thrive in fast-paced environments. Additionally, you are proficient in Microsoft Office.

This role:


  • Plans, schedules and coordinates research projects; participates in primary research activities such as industry interviews, surveys and focus groups; identifies, collects and compiles relevant data sources; conducts secondary research leveraging various data resources and specialized databases such as Lightcast, PitchBook, fDi Intelligence; proactively seeks additional data sources to continually evolve the quality and volume of insights; maintains accurate records of research activities.
  • Liaises with a wide variety of internal and external contacts such as, industry representatives, government stakeholders, business, academic institutions, and associations related to regional economic development, innovation and prosperity initiatives; participates in meetings to discuss key strategic sectors and economic development topics.
  • Evaluates and compiles data from multiple sources, conducts analysis, identifying and extracting trends into meaningful insights to draft technical reports and documents; identifies data gaps and takes initiative to gather missing information. Integrates collected data, prepares tables and graphical representations by using the most appropriate tools to effectively communicate collected information.
  • Provides input to the formulation of findings, participates in the development of insights and actionable recommendations to address identified challenges and barriers in the targeted industries.
  • In collaboration with senior members of the department, prepares reports, presentations, investor attractionfocused materials, articles for industry journals and media; and related materials for the website and social media; reviews and edits communication materials as required.
  • Under the direction of senior members of the department, prepares reports for advisory committees and boards; presents and defends reports' findings and recommended actions for capacity building in selected key industries.
  • Liaises and maintains effective working relationships across functional areas to enable information sharing and collaboration; works with internal and external stakeholders to enhance key messaging.

To be successful, you have:


  • Bachelor's Degree in public or business administration, public policy, international affairs, commerce, economics or a related discipline plus some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques applicable to the work.
  • Considerable knowledge of policies, functions, best practices and objectives related to the work.
  • Considerable knowledge of information, tools and resources applicable to the work.
  • Considerable knowledge of primary and secondary research, research design, economic and business data analysis and evaluation related to the work.
