Job Overview


This role will be to primarily support the Wetlands Workforce, a yearlong initiative to create employment opportunities related to wetland maintenance, monitoring, inventory, and enhancement throughout the Province of BC.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Participates in projects as delegated by the Field Crew Supervisor
  • Invasive plant management
  • Planting native vegetation
  • Maintenance/ construction of signs, trails, boardwalks, dams, dykes, and other structures
  • Conducting surveys of vegetation, wildlife, and water quality
  • Conducting mapping surveys to contribute to a BC Wetland Ecosystems Services Protocol (WESP) and B.C. predictive wetlands map.
  • Adhering to safety requirements and protocols in the field
  • Respectful interaction with members of the public, private landowners, representatives of partnering organizations and members of participating First Nations.
  • Other duties as directed by the Field Crew Supervisor and Wetlands Workforce Project Manager

Work Experience:


  • Experience using tools such as chainsaws and brush saws is an asset.
  • Experience with safe operation of ATV's, 4WD trucks, power tools and other equipment is an asset.
  • Experience working with ecological restoration, specifically with wetlands and riparian areas is an asset.
  • Experience with physical labour, such as landscaping, construction or maintenance is an asset.
  • Experience with surveying, monitoring or data collection is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Ability to be flexible in assigned duties and learn new skills as needed by the Project.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job and traverse outdoor spaces.
  • Ability to endure long days, challenging climatic conditions, and rigorous fieldwork.
  • Willing to travel extensively throughout B.C. or within a region of BC.
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully in a small team.

Education:


  • Postsecondary degree in a related field

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal

Contract length: 4 months


Salary:
$21.00-$23.00 per hour

Willingness to travel:

  • 50% (preferred)
