The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices the culturally responsive pedagogy approach in providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe and healthy education that supports learning and success both personally and academically to the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties, an area of 5,250 square kilometres and a total of 23 schools.

Qualifications:


  • MED in Curriculum, Mathematics, Leadership, or Administration
  • BED with specialization in Mathematics an asset
  • Completion of the NSELC Instructional Leadership Program
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher's Certificate.

Experience:


  • Five or more years teaching Mathematics (P12)
  • Experience working within the studentfocused Coaching Model P1
  • Three or more years administrative experience
  • Experience providing regional/provincial leadership to schools in curriculum implementation, program development
  • Experience implementing intervention response models in an MTSS environment (Tier 1, 2 and 3) at P6 and 712 levels
  • Experience with policy development in the program area
  • Experience working with specialized itinerant regional staff/provincial tables
  • Experience with Budget Management

Task Dimensions

  • Focuses on all aspects of program and curriculum development, implementation, evaluation and support of schools and classroom teachers, which in turn are focused on maximizing students' achievement of learning outcomes.
  • This position will be involved in the implementation of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, working in consultation with the Director of Programs and Student Services
  • This position will oversee and lead the SSRCE Mathematics Coaching/Intervention Teams as well as the Instructional Coaching Team model
  • This position will require collaboration and partnering with SSP Coordinator to support SSP goal and strategy development in schools around Numeracy.
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness from a student learning perspective of policies and procedures related to programs and curriculum support.
  • Monitoring schools and making recommendations for how student achievement can be improved, with a focus on the regional priority areas, particularly in Mathematics
  • Coordinating provincial curriculum implementation, PD, evaluation, and maintenance, and oversee regional leadership implementation teams. This includes resource and release time requirements, determined in conjunction with principals and applicable consultants.
  • Working closely with the Regional Education Team assisting in the development and implementation of Mathematics diagnostic tools for classroom assessment and for both system and schoolbased student evaluation, including standard provincial report cards
  • Supporting schools in analyzing and responding to provincial Mathematics assessment data, along with disaggregated data and Student Success Survey data.
  • Monitoring instructional Time to Learn recommendations from the Department of Education to maximize effective program delivery.
  • Undertaking direct curriculum consultant responsibilities, as required.
  • Providing information and feedback to teachers, in alignment with the Nova Scotia Teaching Standards
  • Coordinating and evaluating pilot projects.
  • Participating in the hiring process of teachers, principals, and other staff upon request.
  • Managing budget within assigned jurisdiction.
  • Supervise and evaluate program staff and other staff as determined by the organizational chart.
  • Identifies where links are needed to other area to ensure effective achievement of overall goals

For example:

  • Collaborating and supporting the Regional Education Team on a regular basis to ensure that the P12 programs are initiated and implemented
  • Collaborating with the Director Human Resources respecting staff allocation for programs.
  • Collaborating with the Coordinator of Student Services and attending meetings to provide advice and support as requested.
  • Specific Program Responsibilities:
  • All PSP programs grade P12, and specifically in the area of Mathematics
  • Supporting schools, as requested around Teaching Support Teams
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
  • Provide leadership and support to the Collaborative Learning Teams.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
