Description
WLIC offers a pathway to an undergraduate degree at Wilfrid Laurier University.


The main responsibilities include ensuring quality curriculum and that the content being delivered in and outside of the classroom, includes university life skills and sexual health education.


The instructor will work closely with Associate Director, Student and Academic Success to coordinate with Laurier resources (library, interfaith, security, wellness), to ensure the program is meeting the needs of students.

Detailed knowledge of WLIC College support programs and philosophy and student life cycle is required.


Course Overview

ILS101:
Integrated Learning Skills


The Integrated Learning Skills Course (or also known as ILS) provides students with the learning and communication skills required to be successful in university studies in a Canadian learning environment.

It includes the basic knowledge skills required to successfully participate in an undergraduate degree program and to operate effectively in a university context.

Aspects of the course emphasize non-academic issues to assist students' transition to the College and eventually, University.


Essential Skills, Knowledge, & Experience

  • Master's degree and sexual health educator certification
  • Professional experience in a relevant discipline area
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in delivery of classes within a postsecondary teaching environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and meet agreed outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in the English language
  • Empathetic approach to the instructional needs and concerns of students

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Degree or certificate in the professional practice of teaching and learning
  • Exposure to the academic needs and requirements of international students
  • Experience in a multicultural environment and strong intercultural competencies

Responsibilities


The main responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to, preparing and presenting lessons (2 contact hours per week), tutorials, & workshops in an English-only format on academic and life skills, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for students, constructing and marking appropriate assessment instruments, offering positive feedback, as well as areas for improvement when grading assignments, and recommending a final grade for the course.

Courses may be in-person, online, or delivered in a hybrid format.
