Position Summary:
Reporting to the Active Living Manager, the incumbent will assist with the scheduling, training, and supervision of approximately 50 AMUSE casual staff (Fitness Center Attendants, Rec Monitors, group fitness instructors and personal trainers) and ensure the smooth functioning of the fitness center.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the manager in the planning, supervision, scheduling and delivery of the Active Living and Fitness programs.
- Oversee the fitness centre and supervise approximately 50 AMUSE staff during evenings, weekends or during peak time periods.
- Schedule and approve shift changes amongst casual AMUSE employees.
- In collaboration with the Active Living Manager, participate in disciplinary meetings in accordance with the AMUSE collective agreement.
- In collaboration with the Active Living Manager, assist with developing, planning and scheduling fitness related programming, including weight training classes, personal training and in person and online group fitness classes.
- Verify and prepare payroll documents for approval or serve as a delegate in the manager's absence.
- Assist the Active Living Manager with the hiring and training of AMUSE staff.
- Assist the Active Living Manager in planning and executing staff trainings, evaluations and onboarding.
- Order equipment and coordinate maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure the clients are operating in a safe manner and enforce safety rules and protocols. Identify safety/risk management concerns at indoor/outdoor facilities; inform the Active Living Manager of issues and resolutions.
- Engage with fitness center members, addressing member complaints/concerns.
- 3 years of relevant experience or bachelor's degree required. Major in recreation administration, sport management, leisure studies, physical education, kinesiology, or comparable degree.
- Demonstrated strong leadership, customer service, team building, and decisionmaking skills.
- Experience managing employees in a unionized environment.
- Experience working in a recreation and or sport environment an asset.
- Experience developing and leading educational sessions.
- Ability to work with budgets.
- Knowledge and a strong background in fitness industry.
- Possess a current CPR, AED, and First Aid Instructor certification, or ability to obtain one.
- Bilingual English and French
