The
Physician Assistant Education Program (PAEP) is a 24 month second-entry professional program offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The program uses small group, problem-based, self-directed learning. The first year will focus on the study of the clinical sciences underpinning health care delivery. In the second year, students will enter 48 weeks of clinical placements.

The demand for the program has grown over 500% since it began in 2008 with over 50 applicants per spot.

The total program enrolment is expected to expand over the coming years.


Job Summary:


The
Program Manager is accountable for the management and administration of the financial, human, and physical resources and the effective and efficient management of all administrative activities for the Physician Assistant Education Program.


The Program Manager provides a continuing link between incoming and outgoing Faculty and Staff on office procedures and policies as they relate to the Physician Assistant Education Program and advises on new initiatives or changes to policies and procedures at both the Department and University levels.

On a day-to-day basis the Program Manager implements the policy decisions taken by the Faculty, Department and University with respect to undergraduate students in the Physician Assistant Education Program and provides leadership and direction to the Staff who provide service to faculty and students.


Accountabilities:


This position requires independent decision making within a delegated area of authority and leadership in the management of support services.


  • Oversees the administration of the Physician Assistant Education Program.
  • Provides administrative direction regarding the goals and objectives of the program by examining, reviewing and assessing immediate and longterm needs.
  • Manages the PAEP operational budget, including salaries, submits the annual budget and 8month budget review.
  • Manages the MOHLTC transfer payment agreement budget including yearend reconciliations and accruals.
  • Approves all financial expenditures including vouchers, purchase orders, journal entries, expense reports and special premium payments.
  • Ensures the provision of frontline service to faculty, staff and students and sets standards for the quality of the program's services. Ensures an efficient flow of program office and information services.
  • Coordinates, organizes and maintains undergraduate curriculum and course information/materials and student records, admissions.
  • Maintain online schedules in eValue and Aquifer.
  • As supervisor, the Program Manager is directly accountable for hiring, training, instructing, assigning work and deadlines, authorizing overtime, granting time off, evaluating work and recommending improvement, retaining probationary employees, scheduling vacations, representing the employer in the grievance procedure, recommending disciplinary action, and attending management meetings where labour relations are discussed or policies formulated.
  • Consultant to all Program Committees, Committee Chairs, and External Program Staff, such as the program's Admissions Committee, Curriculum Committee, Education Committee, and Academic Progress Committee.
