The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to ten temporary full-time Operations Maintenance Workers (from approx. June 26, 2023 to December 22, 2023) to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Roads Operations Department.

Reporting to the Roads Operations Manager, in this unionized position you will perform semi-skilled manual work in roads operations, construction and maintenance.

This position requires sufficient stamina, strength and agility to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.


Responsibilities:

Install and maintain asphalt, concrete and gravel surfaces and assist with pavement maintenance tasks such as crack sealing and patching
Install, repair and maintain street, traffic and related signage using a variety of hand and power tools
Paint traffic lines including crosswalks, safety zones and other road markings using brushes, spray equipment and hand operated lining devices
Assist with drainage and boulevard maintenance, and community cleanliness
Operate a dump, flat, panel or service truck of between 5,100 and 24,000 pounds GVW
Guide equipment operators and ensure safe work practices
Perform related work as required


Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by training courses and considerable related experience in construction and/or maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Considerable knowledge of safe work practices and the methods, tools and equipment used
Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative and operate vehicles safely and efficiently
Ability to communicate effectively with other employees
Ability to prepare and maintain records related to the work performed
BC Landscape Pesticide Applicator Certificate is considered an asset


The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $33.30 per hour (2023 rates), plus 13.5% in lieu of benefits.

The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm.
