Job Summary


We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Controller for the Joseph Group of companies, including Joseph Haulage Canada Corp.

and other transportation and construction services companies.

Under the guidance of the VP of Finance, the Controller will be responsible for engaging in the intricate tasks of analyzing and interpreting financial and accounting information, and critically appraising operating results for profitability, performance against budget, and other metrics crucial to the fiscal accuracy and operational efficiency of the organization.

With a keen eye for detail, the Controller will take charge of developing and maintaining strict control over the annual budget, crafting long-term financial plans, and skillfully administering the organization's funds in alignment with approved budgets, all while diligently monitoring and managing financial expenditures.

Job Duties
As the Controller for the Joseph Group of companies, your multifaceted role will encompass various key responsibilities:

Development and Implementation of Efficient Finance Team:

  • Spearheading the establishment and optimization of a streamlined shared services finance team to ensure effective financial management.

Accounting and Financial Reporting:


  • Planning, directing, and coordinating aspects of accounting, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting.

Management Reporting and Business Metrics:


  • Coordinating the preparation of crucial management reports is essential for informed decisionmaking.
  • Developing and monitoring key business performance metrics.

Financial Data Accumulation and Consolidation:


  • Handling the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for accurate accounting of consolidated business results.

Tax Compliance and Reporting:


  • Coordinating the preparation of income tax and other tax and regulatory filings.

Strategic Support for Sales and Operations:

  • Providing support to sales and operations teams in developing effective business strategies for revenue growth, efficiency, and cost reduction.

External Audits and Accountants Coordination:


  • Coordinating activities with external accountants and auditors.

Business Planning and Forecasting:


  • Handling the overall business planning and forecasting process.

Billing and Collections Management:


  • Overseeing the billing and collections processes.

Cash Flow Management and Reporting:


  • Coordinating cash flow management and reporting.

Evaluation of Accounting and Internal Control Processes:

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting and internal control processes and systems.

Team Leadership:


  • Working with and providing strong guidance and leadership to the finance team.

Assistance in Due Diligence and Financing:

  • Assisting in the due diligence process and financing activities related to potential acquisitions.

Qualifications

  • CPA/CA, CPA/CGA, CPA/CMA designations
  • Five to Ten years of management experience in the financial industry
  • Extensive experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, and asset management
  • Experience with coaching and development of managementlevel employees
  • A clear and solid understanding of the issues faced by the organization and the industry
  • Experience with budget preparation and management
  • Sound understanding of risk management
  • Strong formal and informal leadership skills
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
  • Strong business acumen
