Position Description:
Accountabilities:
- Prepare source data for computer entry by compiling and sorting information; establish entry priorities
- Input accounts payable invoices for payment, monitor as necessary
- Verify accuracy of invoices and related documents
- Research, track and resolve documentation problems and discrepancies, review vendor statements and investigate outstanding balances
- Complete weekly electronic funds transfers and biweekly cheque runs
- Provide back up for data entry for journal vouchers; process new account requests and assist with other accounting duties and reconciliations while ensuring deadlines are met; Provide back up for running monthly financial reports
- Assist with testing of Accounts Payable processes during system upgrades or enhancements
- Ensure effective communication with suppliers and internal customers and provide timely, accurate information as required
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- One (1) year postsecondary diploma in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field
- Minimum of two years' related experience in a business environment in accounting, including experience processing invoices
- Efficient data entry skills with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
- Good problemsolving and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to effectively interact with employees, suppliers and other stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to effectively multitask and handle changing priorities in a deadline driven environment
- Strong math skills and work experience with general administration activities
- Proficient computer skills (MS Office, Excel, Word)
- Previous experience using PeopleSoft Financial ERP system is preferred
- Previous experience in a municipal environment preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- A satisfactory police criminal and judicial matters check is required as a condition of hire
- Applicants may be required to undergo skills assessment testing
