The
General Manager manages all aspects of the distribution center including facilities, employee staffing, employee reviews; financial information including weekly flash reports, budgeting and profit/loss statements.

This role manages a 250,000 square feet facility containing food grade products. The General Manager ensures accounts receive full, requested productivity and quality levels.


The General Manager is responsible for the operation and financial performance by providing direction and leadership to exempt and non-exempt associates at this facility which is a 24/7 operation.

This position is responsible for developing and leading a team of up to 250 associates that will manage the employee performance, inventory, vendor, carrier, and customer relationships.

This role is ultimately responsible for ensuring that orders are selected accurately and packed/shipped without damage for timely delivery. This position reports to the Director of Warehouse Operations.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Develop and direct Warehouse employees to ensure the efficient and costeffective operation and utilization of the facility.
  • Responsible for full P&L for facility.
  • Ensures facility is compliant and inspection ready with Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Environment, OHSA, OHS, fire department and other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with, and improvement of EHS programs that meet federal and provincial and local regulatory requirements, including Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Key liaison with Sales and other business leaders to create a pipeline for customer growth.
  • Conducts analysis of workload as compared to manpower and equipment.
  • Participates in annual Budget preparation.
  • Reports of department and/or account productivity and profitability.
  • Ensures work schedules in place to promote efficiency.
  • Reviews all equipment preventative maintenance schedules and work orders.
  • Develops daily productivity tracking by employee and charts monthly progress.
  • Ensures proper percentage of labor is charged to respective departments to ensure proper factoring is achieved to identify accurate productivity.
  • Ensures the daily preshift meetings cover previous productivity, operational problems, forecasting workload and any other pertinent company information.
  • Annual review of customer contracts, determining and recommending annual increases to the Regional Vice-President
  • Assure proper staffing and support hiring for all facility operations.
  • Manage and maintain good human resources practices with direct reports, and adherence to established corporate and department policies and procedures
  • Conduct regular coaching and feedback on performance, prepare and present formal performance appraisals and make recommendations and approve annual compensation increases.
  • Works with Human Resources to resolve employee relation issues, discipline actions, discipline; problem resolution and terminations.
  • Reviews and coordinates all shift paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Audits all billing activity for accuracy. Properly signs and authorizes all purchase order requisitions, vouchers and customer billing.
  • Coordinates all alarmmonitoring systems and reviews sprinkler system testing.
  • Conducts monthly review of aging for accounts receivable and works closely with the Director and Corporate office to recover balances in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinates with customers any product recall programs.
  • Participates in department or company meetings.
  • Assumes responsibilities of Operational Supervisors/Managers on vacation.
  • Visits other warehouses and attends affiliated meetings if necessary
  • Manage between 2030 customers in the warehouse.
  • Act as a role model for the department in support of corporate mission vision and values.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in General Business or related field.
  • At least 710 years' overall experience at the leadership level.
  • Experience in managing a 100,000+ sq. ft. warehouse/distribution center with total revenues over 1m comprised of multiple customers.
  • Experience in a food grade facility is a must.
  • Experience with managing the distribution, storage and handling of hazardous materials per WHMIS and ISO standards/regulations
  • HACCP certification an asset
  • Skilled in risk assessment and analysis of potential hazards.
  • Experience with (Maves, Manhattan, Red Prairie, Foresite) Warehouse Management Systems preferred
  • Kronos and labor management experience required
  • Working knowledge of warehouse / mechanical equipment
  • Working knowledge of OHSA, DOT, WHMIS, RDC, IWLA, regulations/standards and the willingness to become certified in one or more of these areas as necessary
  • Excellent supervisory skills
  • Excellent customer service skills specifically with external clients/ customers
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills
  • Dangers Goods certification (IATA)
  • NFPA training and membership to understand fire codes f
